Just started on Mirtazapine and want to get off...help please!

Hi all, I'm new here and I wanted to get your advice. I have just begun treatment with Mirtazapine, 15mg. I have had 6 doses and I want to get off this drug as soon as possible. What would you consider to be the best course of action. Many thanks in anticipation.

Why do you want to get off?

I feel like it was a mistake to start with them, more of an attempt to overcome insomnia. Reading a lot of negative reports regarding withdrawals have added weight to that.

I've used Mirtazapine nightly for 18 years. It is, IME, the only drug which really works for insomnia, regardless of your depression status. Takes about six weeks to truly kick in.

Yes, it is habituating and I, too, have read those horror stories with fear. Nevertheless, I reduced my nightly dose from 45mg to 30mg with no changes. Now that my endocrines are in balance, I hope to drop Mirtazapine sometime this year.

Weight gain? That's a yes. But I was also a daily alcohol consumer. Now that I've stopped drinking, I dropped the 40 lbs I'd gained.

Sleep is key to life, my friend, and far outweighs any negative effects of the drug.
