Jolting from sleep

I am so scared of going to sleep. I woke up from my sleep suddenly and was out of breath, sweating and heart racing with chest pains. It’s calmed down now but I get so scared thinking I am having a heart attack. How do I know it’s not a heart attack please help :(

Hey this happens to me on occasion, not frequently but when my anxiety is super high it happens and it’s so frightening I hate it. Mine kind of feels like not breathing when have dozed off then I jolt out of my sleep out of breath like I’m catching my breath from not breathing, that’s the best way I can describe it. But it’s not a heart attack, there’s actually a name for it, can’t think of what it is, but it’s related to anxiety, you’ll eventually doze off and be fine. So sorry you’re dealing with that tonight ugh but you’re not alone

Thank you for replying glad to know it’s nothing serious although these chest pains feel worrying

I get this too, the chest pains I think come from being tense, even if you don’t think you feel tense. It’s scary tho, I get it just as I am about to drift off , then BAM, I think I am having a heart attack, I bolt upright gasping . I know it’s anxiety, because the times I do have a diazipam or a zopiclone , I drift off no problem . Anxiety is a bitch

I wish anxiety didn’t mimic so many serious health symptoms 😭

Hang on in there . Is there any way of you contacting the dr for some relaxants like diazipam or zopiclone ? Or Xanax if you from the USA. I’ve noticed Drs don’t seem to be as hesitant to give them with this virus going around . Must be due to the spike in people’s anxiety . Hope you feel better soon

I live in the uk and I have been offered medication for anxiety in the past but refused as people say it’s better to overcome it naturally and meds can sometimes cause more issues

I deal with med free, but if I get to the point where it’s been 3 nights with no sleep , and my mental state is so bad that I feel like I am close to being hospitalised , I do pop a sleeping pill. I only have it as an emergency stash . Good on you tho for tackling it med free, takes a lot of will power and determination . Good on you 🙏
