As a teenager I contracted encephalitis being so ill at a time when my peers were moving on with their lives caused a lot of anxiety. Not returninig to school, loosing my friends and support group, being misunderstood resulting in bulling, engaging in negative abusive realtionships has left me with anxiety issues which, I would like to tackle in order for me to gain more self-esteem.
Any advise or suggestions?

Well I have a lot of experience in this field but I'm not medical. I suggest you asl your GP to refer you to your local mantal gealth team so you can access a Psychologist who can provide CBT and a Psychiatrist who can diagnose you and peescribe aa type of antidepressant called Selective Serotonin Reuptakr Inhibitors SSRI's and everyone finds one that agrees with them not always the same one. You might need CBT and meds together but first try CBT out on its own. Keep me posted
I totally agree. I think you definitely do need a combination of SSRI anti-depressants and CBT together . I am not medical neither but I have had several trials of different SSRI's with CBT together like maybe Sertraline is the most popular one for Social Anxiety take it from me.
Hi RED1224, I also experienced anxiety post encephalitis as a young child so I totally understand where you are coming from. I have suffered anxiety for most of my life. I have had CBT four different times and I was prescribed several different SSRI's and fibally found one that agrees with me called Escitalopram. I thought all along that you would definitely benefit from CBT for your Social Anxiety it's much more superior than counselling. If you ever need to know anything then at least you know where I am anytime. 🤗
