Sleep study : Question for anyone who has... - Anxiety Support
Sleep study
I have has several , one at home which doesn't give much information and two in a clinic. First of all , the people who work there are very kind and soothing to you. They want you to relax and be able to sleep. The beds they use have excellent mattress and the room has dim lighting an d is similar to a hospital room. It takes about an hour to get all the wires attached and then you can relax and watch Tv for awhile. They will probably offer you a water. You will be on camera and they can hear and speak to you at all times. They also come in to check on you periodically. After a short time the Tv goes off and you go to sleep. If you don't sleep they will let you walk around or maybe read. They don't want you to do anything stimulating, and then you try to sleep again. You can ask your doctor for something to help you relax . It's not a bad experience and you can practice mindfulness or do your breathing for relaxation. Sweet dreams. Pam
I have had a sleep study and I'm incredibly anxious. I was able to take an ambien for the sleep study, which helped a lot! It all was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Good luck!
Thank you for this info ! I do take Xanax , I wonder if they would let me take it before bed . Did you end up with apnea ???
No, but I ended up needing oxygen at night to sleep.
I know a sleep study is scary, but I would just go into it looking for information. Let me know how it turns out.
Does the oxygen help? What made you seek out a sleep study?
I have an 02 sensor and I noticed that my 02 was kind of low. So first the doctor did an at home sleep study using an 02 sensor that I wore all night and my oxygen was low. So then I did an "official" sleep study at a hospital. The nurses there can tell if you just need oxygen or need a CPAP. Let me know if you have any more questions.
The sleep study isn't bad at all, the people I felt with were very nice and accommodating, ... I didnt think I'd be able to get to sleep, but I did and it only takes a short time for them to get the readings they need.
The hardest part is getting used to the cpap mask, and they are much better nowadays.
It's well worth it.
Good luck
I did mine at home
