Im feeling a little depressed that I've developed this fear of eating after getting over severe food poisoning, something that should have only lasted a week went on for a month, I had to have an IV drip as I couldn't keep any fluids down, that was a scary experience in itself as I'm not overly fond of hospitals after having surgery years ago, I'm just wondering... How does one get over the fear they will get sick again if they eat anything? I'm a food lover, but lately I've been throwing everything I cook in the trash and losing wieght as I'm literally worried it will happen again, and i cannot stand wasting food, any advice would be amazing :c

hi obviously you cant go on in not eating you will become weaker quicker having just recovered after a month.eat salads cereal things like that for a couple of days get the apatite back gradually .
I haven't had the same experience as you but I often get scared to eat because I get nauseous really easily and have a fear of vomiting (sounds stupid i know). my appetite kinda goes quite often but eating isn't something you can avoid! If im in that mindset I normally start of with bland/safe foods like toast, biscuits, apples etc. and then it gradually gets back to normal. although eating healthy will make you feel better, i try not to worry too much about it at this point, more so eating foods I like so I enjoy it more.
I hope you feel better soon!
Oh my goodness, you were really bad off to have an IV drip. I can understand your anxiety. What food made you ill?
I had liver (of all things) at a restaurant and within 15 minutes was so sick that we rushed home. I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow without intense pain, after being up all night running to the bathroom. But I was okay in a few days and decided to never eat at that restaurant again.
Like others have said, I would stick with fresh fruit and lots of salads that you can rinse well. Drink bone or beef broth, buy food that you’ve felt safe eating and don’t let this stop you from being healthy. You must have nourishment.
I’m sorry that you went through such an awful experience. Mine was over 30 years ago. I don’t think you will have to worry about it happening again but I certainly understand your fear of food. One step at a time.
You’ll soon realize that you’re not going to go through this again, especially if you prepare your own food. Buy a griller and grill a steak or chicken and put in on a bed of freshly washed lettuce or have some steamed broccoli.
Be well!
