Chest pain and er visits
Maybe you have bad gerd? Acid reflux? I had ekgs done an chest xrays and i get pains in my chest and im a women but i get them under the breast in it sends anxiety threw my body but i just have to learn to trust in the lord its hard i struggle bad daily with anxiety and worrying ima die but all test came normal so its like why worry but i wish it was that easy
I think your having acid reflux . You should get refereed to see a gastroenterologist to review your symptoms
If earlier suggestions don’t pan out & the discomfort persists consider requesting a 24 hour holter monitor, if you haven’t had this. My limited understanding of EKGs is that they capture the event (chest pain problem) if the EKG was recording your heart’s electrical activity while you were actually experiencing chest pain.
Is any of this discomfort triggered by activity such as reaching over your head?
Yes it seems that way but after I do it and my neck and chest start hurting neck first
I had two sharp jolt like transit pains in what felt in the heart area, I want to say over two years ago. This was after lifting something weighing only a pound or so down from a overhead shelf. I went straight back to bed with fear. Later the Attending was so certain it was not heart related he did not even so much as do a EKG.
He must have been right because I have not had this pain again even with similar movements. The doctors must look at your family history, as well as your past history to make this call. I had confidence to listen to this particular Attending because over many years he has proven himself to be always correct.
I am glad the pain has stayed away, I personally think in my case I had thrown a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) from having tried out a antidepressant that had dehydrating me significantly. I stopped taking it. Your discomfort does not sound the same but until it is resolved make sure to stay adequately hydrated.
Were you affected by that really hot weather before your discomfort occurred?
Hello 01021968. I definitely feel your pain. I’ve been to the ER/ urgent care a good 10 times in the past month in a half with awful chest pain that radiates to my arm and sometimes I have shortness of breath. I’ve had chest x rays, EKGS, blood work, holter monitor, and an echo and everything came back just fine. The pain is debilitating at times and I almost pass out. One of the times I went to urgent care, she told me that I’ve had a “million dollar check up” on my heart so it’s almost guaranteed that my heart is healthy. She said that for some people it’s normal to get weird pains like that and so when it comes on, retrain your mind to think “oh this is the pain I get it’s ok though because it’s happened before”. So now, if it’s a pain that I’ve gone to the ER for, I sit it out and wait for it to subside. If it’s really awful and I can’t breathe, I’m sweating immensely, or I am throwing up nonstop then I know I need to go in. For the most part, if it’s a pain you’ve had before and been cleared for, then don’t worry about it unless it’s accompanied by other alarming symptoms. However get it checked out by a cardiologist before you just assume everything’s ok.
Additionally, I would recommend trying different things that help with digestive issues and inflammation. Try tums, Prilosec, or Zantac to see if that helps the burning. If you take Prilosec, take 1 pill once a day 30-60 min before you eat breakfast. If you take Zantac, take one 30 min before breakfast and another 30 min before dinner. As for tums, I guess take as needed but read the instructions on the box.
Sometimes the chest pain may be related to Costochondritis. This pain is by far the worst and can mimic a heart attack. For this, I would recommended taking 2-3 ibuprofen each day for a week and seeing if that helps symptoms to subside for a little bit. Try not to use too many anti inflammatories after that though because they can cause ulcers in the stomach which is not good. I’d also recommended using cool or heat on the chest when it is in pain as this can help with inflammation that’s a result of Costochondritis.
Best of luck and keep us updated!

Thank you for your time and answers I will try it all I do have anxiety for many years but never the chest pain like every other day thank you have a blessed night
I wonder if your pain could be gallbladder related. I’ve had my gallbladder out and the attacks were so bad (worse than labour, I had 4 big babies drug free) but a gallbladder attack threw me on my arse needing IV morphine each time.
You don’t say!? My aunt told me her daughter had to have her gallbladder removed because she was also having really bad pains. That’s crazy. How long did it take them to figure out it was your gallbladder and what tests did they run? I’m glad to hear you got it sorted!
Luckily for me my mum had hers out when she was very young. So when I called her from hospital she immediately knew what was happening, the drs tried to tell me I was having indigestion/heartburn. I was crying and squirming around in pain, the pain was so bad I almost passed out. I wanted to bop the dr for thinking I was faking it! Mind you I was 10 weeks pregnant with my 3rd at the time as well. So once they gave me pain relief and I was able to calm down, after taking to my mum told them it was a gallbladder attack and then their faces were like a light bulb moment and they agreed. Got an ultrasound and sure enough that’s what it was. Sometimes blood tests for the liver can show I think raised levels of something indicating something isn’t right but mine. Had an attack fortnightly even though I was having next to no fat or any other things that are known to set it off (turns out hormones from the pregnancy did it for me) so after having to be hospitalised every fortnight and losing 14kg they took it out when I was 23 weeks pregnant. The pain I had was under right breast but radiated to the left side as well, and a really bad attack had my shoulder and upper back aching badly was well. Along with some stomach upset as well. So I think it would be worth asking to have your gallbladder ultrasound even just to rule it out. I had multiple small stones and sludge.
I hope it’s ok that I reply to this now. I recall reading this whilst at a stoplight so I didn’t have time to reply. How long did it take to feel better once they removed the stones and sludge?
That’s ok I felt better immediately (other then pain from the surgery of course as I was pregnant I couldn’t have much pain meds) but was feeling pretty normal again by day 3 after surgery. Only thing now is I sometimes get tummy issues when some foods don’t agree with me.
Hi !
I also have horrible chest pain and I diagnosed with Costochondritis . I still have anxiety every time I have stabbing pain on my chest !
Try to see a Rheumatologist!
Good luck !
Its acid reflux for sure. Go check that. I hae it and its really bad and intense. Also gives me back shooting pain.
If the ecg said it's good please belive that.
Keep praying slowly it will go away
Do not be scared as fear doesn't come from God
In January I was in the ER about 5 times... I couldn't accept that 'it was just anxiety' and wanted help desperately. I finally buckled and decided to try medication. Now, with meds and therapy and a lot of support from groups like this, I'm doing better. No ER visits since January... that's an improvement. Just writing this to let you know that your experience is really common.
What do you do for a living, and Do you exercise at all? Also, do you have arm pain or a tingling feeling?
Yes neck stiffness like pinch nerves when I put my head down but chest discomfort pretty often x rays ecgs blood work every thing good. I do have anxiety to tho
So it's not your heart it's your nerves/muscles, injury or bad back/ neck could be posture or muscle imbalance and it's irritating nerves. I have a bad shoulder itt will give me chest sensations and neck pain when I don't take care of myself obvs anxiety amplifies everything especially stuff with nerves and muscles
And I work offshore oil and gas industry
Well it ok but usually toward evening time r if I use my arm to much it starts right back up it is aggravating
Hi 01021968, If you are concerned with your heart, in addition to the tests you already did, you may want to check your cholesterol levels and if budget permits, a coronary-calcium-scan. It does sound a possible gastro issue (GERD-Acid Reflux, etc..), try to observe the food you're eating, if it triggers it then stop eating it. I would suggest to not take acid-blockers, try to get it resolve via proper-healthy food intake (less or no processed food, added sugar-salt-oil) and see if it works for you.
Sorry ur going through this, I've also dealt with all of this, an the many er visits an with good reason, my twin died of massive heart attack almost 4yrs ago so when I started having episodes I thought I was dying but had every test done I could an my heart is fine, so I started meds for anxiety and depression which made me worse, then found hempworx cbd oil an I've been taking it last couple months an its amazing, I feel like I can live my life again an its awesome, so if u hv tried everything else then u won't be disappointed with this!! Good luck an hope u start feeling better!!
I suffer with this also in an extreme case of health anxiety whereby I have had 50 A&E (ER/Urgent cafe visits.)
My main focus is around having a heart attack I am 34 with no risk factors and have had ECGS, troponin levels done ECHO and two 24 hour heart monitors in the past year alone and still again yesterday I had chest pain and though right I’m having a heart attack couldn’t breathe etc.
When you have severe anxiety we breathe wrong, we chest breathe which cause the muscles in the chest to become tight and therefore we experience pain.
