Beta Blockers: Hi, I have been put on beta... - Anxiety Support
Beta Blockers
Hiya!im on propranolol for fast heart etc and they are a beta blocker and work really well for me!
No side effects and very effective x
Hi Arlene99, I have been on a beta blocker for 5 years now and it works well
for me. The dosage has never had to be changed but the time of day has.
(which made all the difference in the world) I feel great on them, only side
effect is dry mouth but have found it even helps with anxiety.
Wishing you well xx
these have been a LIFE SAVER for me, on and off for 35 years.
Some clever cardiologist I met with in my early 20's, knew that my " cardiac symptoms" were really anxiety.
He put me on Inderal.
It's been around for a long time and has proved, over time, to be a good drug for many problems.
I’ve been on bisoprolol for nearly 2 years now as I got diagnosed with POTS and they help massively with the high heart when when I stand up. Don’t think I could live without them as they have massively improved my quality of life being on them and help with the tachycardia.
Hi Arlene, I was put on beta blockers after I tried my first antidepressant ever. I experienced really bad side effects:my anxiety got much worse. I went back to GP and told her that I wouldn t want to take ADs just for being worse for weeks while hoping that they might work, or not.... And then later having to wean off them with same side effects. I asked for beta blockers to help reduce my heart rate as this was one of the worst symptoms. The first beta blocker Atenolol did the trick really well:low BP, low HR but after 5 weeks side effects that I didn t know I had got worse:nightmares. During the first weeks I had the odd bad dream, I found that normal since I m in therapy and a lot comes up. But the dreams came nightly then, worst dreams ever. I was put on Bishop olol instead, working up from a low dosage slowly to dosage equivalent to Atenolol I had before. During the first weeks I felt awful sometimes, having racing heart again and a few panic attacks but since I m on maintenance dosage I m fine. Blodd pressure and heart rate are totally normal. But anxiety is still there and I have to deal with it. It is bad sometimes, burning in my stomach, fear boiling up, ringing in my ears, tremors, flat breathing, tightness in chest etc but it does not trigger a panic attack. So I am more confident in dealing with my anxiety. There are beta blockers which also treat a bit anxiety. Atenolol is one of those, but it is an older drug and has more side effects than the truly cardio selective ones like Bisoprolol. Hope this info helps you to decide for/against
Thanks everyone for taking time to reply....after reading them I'm thinking the positives outweigh the negatives😘😘
I'm o bystolic and have been since 11/2017. It was prescribed to me for my anxiety and to control my heart rate. I didnt have any negative side effects once I started it. The only thing I can say is that sometimes it gives me a feeling that I'm high. If I'm really stressed and tense i can tell when the beta blocker starts working because I will feel a lightness in my chest.
Thanks for ur reply, enjoying all the positive posts. This is a great wee site for encouragement & support. 😘😘
