These really don't work immediately and take a few days to get the acid down so I don't think taking another one will stop the pain. Just give it a few days and things should get better.

No, you should take it as prescribed unless directed by a doctor otherwise. In the mean time, I recommend taking something over the counter like Zantac. PPI (proton pump inhibitors) work by shutting off some of the acid production in our stomach. Zantac (or ranitidine as generic) also reduces the amount of acid in your stomach to give you comfort. The omazprole will take a bit (a week or so) to kick in, so the Zantac will give you some daily relief until the omazprole kicks in. You can also try Tums or any other antacid that's similar. I suffered from this for several years, so I know it's a total pain in the rear.

Other important things....avoid NSAID medications (this basically leaves Tylenol) as they can cause irritation in your stomach, alcohol, soda or fizzy drinks, and any food that might cause your reflux to become worse. While some places might promote it, my gastro doctor at the time said to avoid using baking soda as an answer. That said, there are others who will say it helps....you mix it (1 teaspoon) with 8 ounces of water. I would consult a doctor or pharmacist on this as it may or may not be a good solution for you. Try to stick to a GERD diet for a few days while your stomach adjusts. Another thing that may work (or may not) is drinking aloe vera juice. It's pretty gross, but it also provides some soothing feelings.

A last tip is probiotics....this actually worked for GERD, acid reflux, and IBS issues I had. It may or may not be a solution, but it does help the natural gut flora to benefit the "good" bacteria while dissuading the bad bacteria from growth. I know how annoying and painful this all is, so I hope you're able to find some relief and relax. Plenty of water to flush the system as well!
