Hello all! Someone please shed some light.. as i am confused.
I wore a heart event monitor for 30 days. I just got the results. Out of 30 days..only 2 episodes that the doctor seen that was out of the ordinary. First was a skipped beat at about 9 am on the 15th of Dec. The second was an episode of what they called Atrial Tacycardia on dec 20th at 5 pm. To the equivalent of 10 beats? Or above 100bpm. The doctor said this could have been during exercise or any event in which i was more active..anyone with any insight regarding what that really amounts to ..please let me know. So here is the thing..i felt multiple times my heart was racing and fluttering and skipping beats while on that monitor..so what in the heck am i to think and conclude from this test result??
That there is nothing wrong with your heart and the cause of the raise heartbeat is due to excessive adrenalin / anxiety? If your doctor is not concerned, neither should you be concerned.
However, I know that anxiety is likely to make people doubt what their doctor is telling them is actually true. I’ve been there.
Autumn 822 I agree with Beevee. But next time you ever need to see a specialist don't be afraid to sit an extra few minutes in that chair to ask all the questions you need to, especially for test results. Just tell them you're a person who needs explanations in order to calm your anxiety, otherwise you'll just be calling to make another appointment and seeing them again very soon. I find most docs enjoy answering logical and well thought out questions from their patients.
Ha that's funny..they didnt even call me back to the office. I got my results by phone. The doctor i seen about 10 minutes on my first visit..long enough to tell me the ekg showed a small heart attack.
I got my heart monitor results on the phone too, from my general practitioner's secretary (results showed some skipped beats which she said are not worrisome) but she offered a referral to a cardiologist anyway which I took and he answered all my questions. I live in Canada though...are you in the States?
Yes. But the fluttering happens to me very rarely and has never been captured on the three holters I've worn in the past 30 years. Everyone on my dad's side has heart palpitations and everyone is living a healthy life with no problems. Try not to worry as lots of people I know have heartbeat issues and have been checked out and are fine. I'm actually shocked by how many!
BTW I have discussed the fluttering with a previous cardiologist who didn't seem concerned. He has really nice too so I don't think he would have shrugged it off if it was actually something to worry about.
