Seeking serenity

I own a condo and there is a unit below me and above me. For more than six months the unit below has been blaring their music that causes my floor to shake. We my bf tried to ask if they could turn it down they basically shut the door in my face. Yet they came storming up stairs when they heard us being up getting ready for the day and the guy smelling of alcohol wanted to take the conversation outside with bf. My bf did not take the bait. The guy also followed us out to the parking lot and asked if we had a problem. I did file a police report and talked to the condo. I am also not the only one. It’s frustrsting. Then recently the people above me have been up banging and yelling until 3 am. I also took similar steps to try and gain some common ground with them as I need to be up for work at 6:30. After these efforts I am not certain behavior will change but am not going to complain any further. It’s taken it’s toll on me and my bf. So I tried to get s loan to see if I can move. The frustrating factor is that I love my condo before these two units occupied these tenants. I just pray for peace and some serenity as I walk through this. I am also trying to apply for other jobs as my job is contract and is coming to an end. The anxiety is more about having serenity in my home.

Hi, I know your anxiety is escalating with your situation. But the maybe best thing I can offer you if you live in the US, is several pieces of law.

Condo living can be very difficult when your neighbors are violating the condo homeowners corporation documents. I wasn't certain if you said you approached the condo board about the problems you are experiencing.

Check your copy of the corporation docs to determine your rights and the procedure for formally filing a complaint with the homeowners association Board of Directors and the management company.

If the people below you and above you are renters and not owners, they may have been required to also sign a rental contract with the homeowners association as well as the owners of the condos. The contract with the homeowner association would outline the eviction power of the association and the requirement the renters have read the association docs on rules and regulations.

You should not have to move and sell your condo because of these neighbors behavior. One of the purposes of the Homeowners Association docs is to enforce your right to a peaceful home.

If your neighbors are homeowners, the docs may include penalties for such behavior including financial ones.

You are not powerless. I wish you a peaceful home.
