Hi, I'm Armonee I'm new here and I suffer from major depression and anxiety. Does anyone have a coping skill that helps them that they would like to share with me?

Hello!! I’m new around here. I’m not sure if you have tried but writing really helps me process anxiety. It isn’t writing like in the artistic fashion though. My therapist explained that when we are stuck in the loop of anxiety we have to engage our prefrontal cortex in order to pull away from the amygdala. Last night I was really struggling so I write myself a letter. That helped but I needed more so I wrote a list of things that I frequently worry about. The action of writing and having to think about what I was writing really helped me calm the panic. Just a suggestion. I don’t have as much experience with depression so I’m not sure I would be very helpful in that arena. I hope you find something that helps.

Hi Armonee! I am quite new here as well, and I am suffering from anxiety and depression as well. It has taken me years to find a coping skill that doesn't feel silly to me, and even better, one that works. I have recently tried drawing things on other people. Not anything like the Mona Lisa, but more like flowers and shapes and symbols. I also use reference photos to help me feel more confident in my drawing. If you are not the artistic type, then I coping skill that works for me is going outside. Even if you just stand out there for a few moments, it can feel like you are less confined, cleaner, and more care-free! Walks through forests also help me a lot. Then, of course, there is breathing. I like to do in for 7, hold for 8, and out for 4. It is less traditional, but it works for me! I wish you great luck and I hope this helps :)
