Doctor has given me diazepam 5mg to take twice a day for severe anxiety at the moment & the irony is I'm too scared to take it in case it makes me panic!!

Will it ease my anxiety? It's at an all time high & I haven't slept properly for days 😩

Hi...i was givem 2mg diazapam and i was also scared of trying them. I started by cutting them in half which sounds stupid but i have such a sensitive stomach that i have to be careful. They just made me sleepy and abit spaced out. Try taking just half if your scared and see how it goes. X

I was incredibly anxious at the time, thats what they give them for i believe.

Hey Ffaiers, don't be scared, will not make you panic, I was on diazepam as well years ago, will calm you down and you'll get some good sleep.

Better to take it when is somebody with you so you can feel more secure. Don't worry! let me know :)

Hello. I have 5mg diazepam for my PMS when it gets REALLY bad.

They make me feel relaxed but not too relaxed. Sometimes I halve them, so that would be 2.5mg.

They take the edge off the panic, heart thumping, thoughts racing etc. I get extreme anger as well, so it helps me with that.

Don't worry about it too much. It's used because it works.

Best wishes πŸ’—

You need to trust your doctor to be okay. I got them too when I was first diagnosed with GAD, my anxiety was in full swing during that time, I can't sleep and eat, well those meds made me relax and I could sleep, then later on my doctor changed my meds when I went already relax a bit, physical symptoms are still there but not too worst. Don't google it, each of us has it's own unique way to react with medicines...who knows the best will happen to you. You just need to trust your doctor and yourself that you'll be okay. We can do this! God bless.

Ffaiers, you have a lot of people on the forum who have taken diazepam or something comparable. It will not make you more anxious. It will give you an inner calm and peace.

As suggested by others, take a half the first time as well as have someone with you for the first dose. Just until you feel comfortable in the effects of the med. Once you take it, work with the medication. Do not fight it. Relax and let it do it's thing.

We have all been in the same place as you. We get the medicine filled and then keep it on a shelf because we are too afraid to try it. We then continue feeling miserable while the doctor thinks he has helped us.

We are all here to support you through this. Once you take the first dose, you will see the difference in how you feel and won't be afraid to take the next one.

Keep us updated please. You can do it. You will be okay Ffaiers! You will be on your way to feeling better :)

I'm laying in bed breaking my heart. I can't stand feeling these feelings any longer, I just want peace & sleep 😒 My heart hurts 😒 I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll never take it now. I know I'll fight the feeling & feel worse x

Ffaiers, we have all been where you are. You are not alone with that feeling of fear in taking medication. This medicine will allow you to relax and feel peaceful and able to sleep. It will also relax your muscles so your head won't hurt anymore. You need to remind yourself that this medicine was prescribed by your doctor who knows your health history as well as cares about your welfare. Don't torture yourself any longer. In the end it is your decision, but try even a half a pill. It won't hurt you.

I felt the same way before. I don't know, for my opinion, I'm gonna take the medicine, to help you, I just want you to know I was diagnosed with GAD a month ago, imagine how I feel? I'm already 28, and I am so scared and depressed bcoz in just a flicker, I got a new world full of darkness, it is normal to be depressed, you even think it will be the end of your future or to end your life, but instead of thinking the failure side of life, made me realized to try the medical side, I am so desperate to have my life back, so I gamble for the medication, it did not fail me, I was able to relax and clear the fog inside my head, I can sleep. I want you to know you are not alone with this kind of fight, I am fighting, they are fighting everyday. Just trust! I know how you feel, it is really hurting me now, I know how hard it is during the bad days. Pls take care.

Thank you for being so kind to me. Are you taking diazepam ? I've had it since I was 19 I'm now 37! I've been on seroxat (Paxil) all that time. This episode has knocked me for 6 😩

Yes, I am taking it 10mg but different kind I guess but it is still PAM. I got PRAM too when I got my first worst attack, but my doctor change it since it is addictive. About 2 days ako my attack went to full swing again, so my doctor changed my dosage went up high on the anti-psych meds 50mg, helped me a lot, I can easily recognized the mood changes, well first night I took the new high dos med, I got full swing attack much worst, then after that, the following day, I got more better. Sigh...I hope you'll be okay soon...just hold on and trust. You are not alone.

Hi I understand your fear, and anytime i'm prescribed a new med i sleep at a friend's house or have someone sleep over, bc I'm so scared of how it might affect me. I looked up diazepam, its generic for Valium which is in a class of drugs called benziodiazepines. I take benzios for extreme panic, have been on xanax and now Klonopin. i think I've tried Valium before, but for me it was weak; Xanax is the strongest benzio I think. You are right to be cautious, for this type of medication can be very addictive and i personally build tolerance quickly .Every one is different so don't let reviews scare you, just see how your body reacts. When I took Klonopin for the first time, my fear of a new medication caused me to get a panic attack, and i thought it was from the pill but it wasn't, bc since then it has worked to calm me. I take klonopin now bc it's not as powerful as Xanax, hence, not as addictive. Benzios are designed to calm you so that is the most likely effect it will have on you, but, for me I've found it's best to reserve my benzio only for extreme anxiety/panic attack that i can't calm down any other way. In the past i was very addicted to xanax and i was taking a crazy amount every day . Now i limit my use of my benzio (klonopin) to once a week or less if i can . Bottom line, it's good and bad. If you first try every other natural way to calm down (mindful breathing, praying, talking to a friend, tapping, watching comedy, drink magnesium/chamomile tea) and if nothing works and the panic attack is unbearable, then it's good to have the pill handy for emergencies. In my opinion that's the best way to use a benzio. Take care

Hey Ffaiers, how are you feeling today? any plans for the WE? :)

letting Anxiety rule your life as you is dangerous. You have to deal with your fears to overcome anxiety.

the meds may help mellow you down so you can get some sleep and better use your senses but in the end, you have you have to tackle those fears of yours or else anxiety will continue to overwhelm you to the point that you may need more than the current dose to calm you down.

Diazepam is a drug which reduces anxiety don't be afraid to try it. Diazepam will make you feel calmer and more relaxed.

If you are afraid try taking half the dose and you will feel you will

Come to no harm.

Hi Ffaiers. I have an aversion to taking new meds due to my fear of them. I prefer to try new meds. under medical supervision if possible. Some novel suggestions: go to your local hospital, sit in the parking lot and take the med. You will be close to medical help if you need it - which I can pretty well guarantee that you won't. Go to a mall where there are people around and take the med. for the same reason. There will be people around who can help if you need it - again, you won't. Diazepam will simply calm you down. Once you become familiar with the effects of it, you won't have to go anywhere "safe" to take it. But until then, those might be options.

Good for you Ffaiers. You tried it. Even at just one dose, you saw it is not a bad pill. Yes you do probably need to take the full dose that the doctor prescribed, being another 5mg. After a day or two, you will feel calmer. Your body will adjust to the dose. Work with it and don't be afraid. Feel better.

Hiya, I too suffer severe anxiety and I'm very sensitive to medication but I can reassure you that diazepam is great stuff for anxiety. It's a relaxation medicine and it just makes you feel drowsy and sleepy and very chilled out. It gives your mind and body a much needed rest. I Hope this gives you some sort of reassurance.
