After 20 years of taking 2mg. of lorazepam a day, now my doctor will not prescribe it any longer. I'm 66 years old and know what I need to keep my boat from tipping. Any advise on how to get someone to prescribe it? Thanks already.
LORAZEPAM: After 20 years of taking 2mg. of... - Anxiety Support
LORAZEPAM
Hello
I found myself in a similar position some years ago and to be honest if you have been taking them for 20 years on a regular basis I would hope your Doctor has set out a plan for you to slowly taper of them , if not then I suggest you go back and rather than them just not prescribing them any more ask to be tapered of them
Now so many Doctors do like like people to take these kind of drugs because of addiction that can come with them , even though after 20 years of you been on them your's has taken their time in deciding this but other than your Doctor know one else can prescribe them
Please don't go down the road of buying them of anyone or online you never know no matter what they guarantee what you could be getting , so stay clear of anything like that
I would ask your Doctor for an alternative they could prescribe and if you find the Doctor you see not helpful see another one in the same surgery that hopefully will be more understanding and supportive
Let us know how you get on
Take Care x
Lulu-1 gave great answer. I would agree with what was said.
You need to taper of these meds not stop suddenly so please go back and see your doctor or see a different doctor if the first one does not help.
I would completely agree not to try and get the drugs anywhere else. I looked into this once for a similar reason to what you are going through and the cost would have been outrageous. I also felt ashamed and realised that I must be addicted to even think of getting the stuff online.
I just sat down and thought "No, I'm not going down that route. I will try and do what the doctor has suggested". (So it was a good "wake up" call for me)
I have now managed to reduce my meds, so it can be done.
Wishing you all the best. Gemmalouise XXX
Can you go to a different doctor.
To bunnyrae and lulu1, thank you for the time you took to comment. I have decided to take the advice of a nurse that I know, who explained that a psychiatrist is the way to go when it comes to things like this, so I think I'll give that a try. I started taking them because of a nervous jerk that would happen every time I would dose off to sleep, and this would go on all night long, till I couldn't take it anymore. I will post how it all turns out once I get it worked out. God bless, AnnRay.
Hello
I really hope you manage to get it sorted and if you feel seeing a psychiatrist is the way to go then I hope it gets you the support you deserve and need with this situation
Good Luck , I am sure one way or another you will get this sorted out and look forward to hearing how you get on x
Thank you dear, it's so good to know that there are folks out there you've never met, but know what one is feeling and care.
