Helping hand from strangers

I woke up this morning, only goal was to make it to the store and buy bunch of chocolates on sale. I took my dog and after multiple tries we made it, me and spidey were picking chocolate bars i wantedto be quick so i can get out of there as soon as possible then one of the cashiers came and told me that spidey wasn't allowed only small dogs i told her i couldn't be here without him i needed him close then this lady tried to take his leash to tie him outside without my consent..... everything went left i screamed at her i didn't even realized i was having an attack till the manager was telling me to breathe and he started asking me to name my favorite chocolate brands, each time i name one he would pick it up the shelf and put it in my cart before i knew it we were talking about calories and how gross i think reese's puffs cereal is, i end up making it back home with bags of free chocolates (I WAS SMILING SO HARD I THOUGHT MY FACE WAS GOING TO SPLIT UP) i told mom what happened and she called the store, it seems like the manager's niece also suffer from anxiety and agoraphobia that's how he knew how to help me calm down

Started out rough but looks like you actually turned it around. That was so nice of the manager. It is against the law in US to refuse you with a service dog or even ask why as long as he is behaved and not violent. That certainly was very unfair. I don’t know if you have one but you can buy vests and emotional support patches online. Then no one will or can legally harass you. If you don’t have it then it may save you some trouble in the future. It’s not too expensive and for emotional support they do not need any special training.

She said my dog was too big, spideyis a Newfoundland he's suppose to be huge and thanks for telling me i will definitely be buying some.

It doesn’t matter what size he is. That was uncalled for! Illegal if he wasn’t hurting anyone. I saw someone on tv with a therapy miniature pony. Going to restaurants, stores everywhere!

in reply to Hopeful-Tinkerbell

Her dog is like a mini horse, 300 pounds lol

in reply to Hopeful-Tinkerbell

She didnt have to try and get the dog from me either that was uncalled for especially after i told her i needed him close

Illegal. If the manager had not helped you I would call the police. It’s very unfair that you were trying so hard and had to go through that. I’m sorry that happened to you. I would print the emotional support dog laws and take them there for training at least.

in reply to Hopeful-Tinkerbell

Mom ordered a vest last night and i talkedto my therapist about it also so he can help. I don't want to deal with another similar situation

Awesome! Now Spidey can go everywhere you go! Stores, restaurants, doctors etc. YAY! You can also order an emotional support patch if you want but now they can’t legally say anything as long as he is good. ❤️

I would still print off the rules for therapy dogs and send them a copy. Manager may not be there. Or just keep one on you and if anyone asks a question anywhere say read this while we shop etc. I’m sure Spidey will love it as much as you! ❤️❤️❤️

That cashier deserves a pat on the back for a good job in comforting you. He turned your negative thoughts around to positive. The rest was up to you and you did it Danielle. You walked back home in a different state of mind as well as with a bag of chocolates :)

Sometimes we slip back for a moment, but it's the end results that counts. I'm writing this as I'm snacking on a Hershey/Almond bar and feeling quite mellow. :) Enjoy your treat bag of Chocolates and be proud of yourself. Hugs :) xx You did good

I'm glad your mom went to personally thank the manager. He did a great job. That should make you feel more comfortable the next time you go. Do you have enough Chocolates to hold you through for a while? :)

Hugs xx

in reply to Agora1

I have enough chocolate for the whole month 😃. This will definitely motivate me to keep going to that store

I am so proud of you for making it to the store. That cashier was way out of line & has no idea of what she's talking about. Spidey is your service dog, which come in all sizes. She had no right to try to take his leash, she's lucky he's a good dog , cause she could've gotten bit. And if she felt so strongly she should have gotten the manager & let him sort it out. That manager was amazing, I'm so glad he was there to help you out (& give you chocolate). Hope his boss hears about how awesome he is & the cashier gets a good talking to. Enjoy all that chocolate Sunflower, don't eat it all today.❤

in reply to melbrown

You are right she didnt have no right to try and take my dog from me even after she saw how it was affecting me. On the bright side not only i got free chocolates but i made it home safely and i remain calm

in reply to

That is great Danielle, one day we have to hang out when you are feeling up to it.

You're making huge progress. Nice

Thank you

Glad it turned out well. Maybe there is something your doctor can do to have your dog declared a medical necessity for you. I do not know, I am just theorizing. It sounds to me that you are doing well with conquering your fear☀️

All she has to do is simply get a note that he’s an emotional support dog. Nothing else needed. If wearing a vest they can’t legally ask so even that would be enough. Read the rules Danielle on emotional support dogs. It’s very lenient.
