So I spoke with my specialistfriday about the nightmares I'm having frequently as a result of my anxiety and the meds I'm on. She prescribed me prazosin for it and said it was studied by the VA and found to help with them. Everything in the packet that came with the pills though said it was just a blood pressure med. I guess I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with it on here and could tell me if it worked for them.

Prazosin experiences for nightmares.
Yes, and it is helping me.
It's a low blood pressure meds used for PTSD veterans and my neuropsychiatrist rx for me. I have terrible nightmares from my PTSD. My service dog is dead now and he used to wake me from the nightmares. It has taken over a month, but I take it before bedtime along with a low dose muscle relaxer, and Xanax. I keep a sloppy but sufficient notebook journal and write down how I feel, what I remember from the night, etc.
I really don't remember the exact storylines of the nightmares most if the time now, but just have this "over cast" feeling that I KNOW I had some. I didn't get any packet of info, but ,my MD discussed it with me. Said to start with one pill and add another if one pill didn't help after awhile.
I have low blood pressure, so the doctor had my husband check it every morning for a week or so when I woke up just to be certain the med was not lowering my blood pressure too much. Has had no effect that way. Don't feel sluggish or faint, etc.
You go back and KISS THAT DOCTOR, because if your nightmares are as horrble and violent as mine are for the last 17 years, she deserves that and ROSES and CANDY.
I give mine the golf balls that golfers hit into my yard from the golf course behind my home. He explained the "Titilist' (sp?) are expensive and most of the ones I collect from our yard are that brand. Average about a dozen a month.
What did the pamphlet you receive say? From what I've read no one seems to know why this med does what it does.
