Anxiety for getting my first job

Hello! I'm new here, I recently just found this site by accident and I thought 'why not?' since I don't really have anyone to talk to about my problems.

So, to start of, im a really quiet and shy person.. I probably have like 0.01% confidence and trust in myself.. I've usually always tried to push myself or force myself to do something because I knew I had to despite of how anxious and depressed I feel. I recently dropped out of art college and I need to get a job to go back. I'm so scared of starting of on this new path, I have a lot of problems answering calls or talking to people since I am so anxious and I always think I might do something to mess up or Im not good enough for that situation.

I dont know what to do to stop my mind from having so many words and dark scenes inside my heart, my stomach is tight and I somehow feel like i have fever almost all the time, without having a cold. Anxiety makes me feel exhausted.. I dont know what to do.(Sorry for the bad english, Im not english.)

Sawaako, many people with anxiety have lack of confidence in themselves and the popular therapy known as Cognative Behavioural Therapy is based around addressing this issue. Your other symptoms mentioned all sound like anxiety and in particular the tightness in your stomach because the stomach is frequently the first organ of the body to respond to anxiety.

By all means see your doctor about your stomach and fever to be sure and for reassurance. Also, if you are in a position to do so I think you would benefit greatly from a couse of cognative behaviour therapy - or failing that obtain and read agood self help book on the subject.

I am going to suggest to you that you are every bit as good as everyone else and there is absolutely no reason why you should have problems talking to people: your posting shows you to be an educated and articulate person who is good at expressing themselves. There is every reason why you should look the world in the eye and take your rightful place in the society in which you live. I wish you good luck in finding your new job and your plans for your future.

Thank you, your reply means a lot for me..

Hey Sawaako,

It’s so nice to meet you and have you come on here and share your story with us. Welcome!

I totally get what you’re going through 100% I used to feel very shy all through school and then when I got to high school I joined a drama class and took it for my 4 years I was there. It was new to me and I was scared but I fell so in love with it and the feeling and confidence it gave me. You would be truly surprised how good you are at things if you just take the first step by trying. I want to commend you for pushing yourself to do something that’s out of your comfort zone that is amazing and shows you have amazing character. Good for you!

I find sometimes what helps is choosing to do 1 thing each day that you’re “scared” of or haven’t done before. The feeling is so rewarding :)

Also there’s no shame in dropping out of something. I went to College for Theatre and Performing Arts (Something I LOVED) but my anxiety got in my way and I dropped out cause I knew it was right for me to do in order to take care of myself first.

Get back out there you will do great things 👍🏽
