I have experienced it while still asleep. Like when I have a nightmare and in my dream I want to run so badly but can't. It's like being stuck in place. I've woken up and realized it was because I was sleeping. That caused me to do some research years ago and I learned of sleep paralysis. I think I read that we all essentially get paralysis in our sleep because if you didn't, you would literally start acting your dreams out. Which would be awful. 😂 but I've heard people kind of half wake up and the body is still paralyzed which is really frightening. That part I have not experienced. Sorry to hear it happened to you.
I get this quite regular,
When I first had an episode I was so scared, didn't sleep for days I was so scared but then I researched it and became used to it.
Thankfully I don't get some of the night terrors people say they get which I'm glad about and often can feel it coming on.
The best advice I can give is realise although it may be scary, its totally harmless - focus on your breathing and work really hard to try move a finger and that will break it
