Hi there, my name is Samantha and I'm 25. I've came across this website when trying to find support groups for health anxiety. I'm hoping I can find people going through the same or similar as I feel so alone and none of my friends or family can understand what my mind and body goes through. I've tried numerous different things to try and overcome my anxiety but so far nothing has worked, it helps for a little while but then it always just comes back even worse.

Hello! Welcome to the group! I’ve had health anxiety ever since I got 2 reactions to meds in January . Do you know how yours got started?

Hi, I have health anxiety too, mine started when I was young and just seems to have got worse as I got older. Very hard to keep it under control. What have you tried so far to help?

I have no idea what started it when I was younger but I could control it to some degree but then I had a scary miscarriage on mother's day last year (uk) and was in and out of hospital a lot and from them I've been controlled by the anxiety, the least pain or spot I get in into meltdown and googling, annoying my husband and family about it, I see my doctor every 4 weeks just to check on my meds and sometimes he can't even answer my questions. Xxx

I have health anxiety as well. It was triggered when I lost my dog! but I have always had a hard time with being sick and not knowing if I will be ok.

It's terrible but being on here helps!

in reply toBetha

Mine was triggered two month ago from flying but its weird because I have been on a plane twice before and it was fine.

What symptons do you get?

Betha profile image
Betha in reply to

Well I guess my symptoms range from don't be gross staring at my bowel movements, taking my temperature. Right now googling HIV symptoms. I fainted the other night due to a bug bite and now I am looking up other reasons for fainting.

Oh and I am now feeling my throat and pulling at it.

I lose my breath sometimes and I cry a lot!

what about you

in reply toBetha

Upset stomach, dizziness, feel weak, heart palpitations, feeling sick, ringing in my ears.

Anxiety is horrible and I would do anything to be rid of it.

Hi, I've tried emdr therapy, CBT therapy, lots of different tablets I've been on citalopram, sertraline, flouxetine, martazipine and just been changed onto venaflaxin (not sure on spelling) as none seem to work or give me horrible side effects, I take diazepam just 2 or 4 mg if things are really bad to take the edge off. I also suffer really bad ibs-a and take buscopan for that and codeine for the pain, I take lansoprazole and ranitidine for gerd, ended up with that cos I was constantly taking anti inflammatory for all the pain I get. I've questioned if I could have fibromyalgia due to a range of symptoms but the doctor just puts everything down to my anxiety. I've been in hospital lots due to chest pains and ecgs have been fine and blood tests but I still panic about a heart attack every time I get pains in my left side of the chest as it always happens and hurts my left arm as well but then again it could be a slight pain and my anxiety makes it worse. Sorry for babbling on so much. Xxxx

Sam jam have ever say it to your doctor to do some more tests like heart echo or a stress ecg test-----i am suffering from the same but i disnot feel pain i feel my chest is heavymy gp think its because of gerd as i have burping and bloating stomach i have tried many medicine no thing help me thats why i decide to do ct angiography to see if it related to heart problem waiting for result i have anxiety to and still thinking that there will b some problem in it but my previous ecgs are fine echo of heart is fine i have 24 hour holter ecg which is normal--i m worried and for the anxiety i use lexapro 10 mg once at night try to talk to ur gp and use it hope it will help you as ithelp me alot but some time still focusing to my heart and for that i decide to do more tests if there is a problem i do treatment if i m lucky that there is no problem i thinki should think to try some thing else for my anxiety---to kick out anxiety from ur life u need to do some more tests to make ur mind relax

Hi im new to the group too. My name is Samantha as well but im 24 lol

I have only had anxiety for two months but its terrible.

Today I have been constantly dizzy and shaky.

I go to the doctors but they just want to put you on medication, I don't want to rely on medication if I can find a way to get through it without needing pills.

I too felt that way regarding medications and I hate taking any type of tablet as another part of my health anxiety makes me petrified of side effects but I got to a point where I'm desperate to be normal especially for my children so am willing to try just about anything but so far nothing seems to help at all. I'm sorry your going through this as well I really wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy xxx

in reply tosamjam1992

Yes I just want to feel normal again too. My doctor asked if I would like to see a councillor but I don't see how that will help.

Yeah If it gets to the point where I need meds then I will take them.

I'm just worried because I've heard they can make you hallucinate.

Im sorry your going through it too.

Same wouldn't wish it on anyone. Its a horrible thing to deal with xxx

I've tried 2 different types of counselling and being honest they helped for roughly 3/4 months then I got a sickness bug and it knocked me straight back to constantly worrying and panicking again so I'm hoping when I see my doctor again on 18th September he will refer me back and see if I can try and get back into the mind set I was in during therapy last time. I think it's a matter of trial and error. Yeah I heard that as well but with all the tablets I've tried none made me hullicanate, I did get dodgy tummy, worse headaches than what I normally get, not being able to sleep a wink or some made me too sleepy. Xxxx

in reply tosamjam1992

Ohh maybe I will give it a try then.

I hope you start feeling a bit better soon. Xxx

Not all meds are the same, I went on meds, a small dose of 10mg. I had no side effects what so ever and they kicked in after two weeks. I felt normal again, I could rationalise my thoughts instead of obsessing over them, over and over and giving myself panic attacks. It gave me a break from myself, I lived a normal life again. I can't praise them enough! I had to stop due to pregnancy, so my health anxiety has come back, the withdrawal from them was pretty bad too but I knew what it was and I knew I'd get over it eventually, Took about two weeks. I can't wait to get this baby out so I can go back on them lol.

in reply toemmalou3422

Ohh I'll speak to my doctor again if im not feeling any better with deep breathing thank you

Hi Samantha,I couldn't help but notice that we're the same age.I can definitely relate to you about not wanting to take medication..the thing about doctors where I am is that they're quick to brush off anxiety and it makes me feel really alone because it feels like they're quick to brush off my symptoms :(

in reply tokeptainicandozatt

Hi :) Yes I know the feeling every time I go there just like oh you just need to take deep breathes like that solves everything, or they talk about medication but I don't want to rely on medication yet.

I have health anxiety too :( I found a lump in my armpit last month and my thoughts straightaway went to breast cancer.Turns out it was a swollen lymph node. Now I'm worried that I might have heart problems because it feels like my chest's tight and I can't breathe properly..and it feels like none of my friends understand because they're quick to brush it off.

Mine started only recently because I've been unemployed for about two months and looking for a job is stressing me out really badly :( I hope you can find some solace here and useful tips that you can try out to manage your anxiety.Or if you ever need to talk or anything!

in reply tokeptainicandozatt

Just remember you are not alone.

I feel terrible all the time lately can't remember the last time I had a great day and felt good.

I worry about going into a full attack all the time.

I have heart palpitations all the time italicised horrible.

Yes I think if people don't have anxiety then they don't understand how you feel.

Always here if you need a chat.

I hope you find a job soon! Xx

Thank you so much!<3 I feel like I can probably conquer all the symptoms except for the heart ones 😂

By any chance,do you feel faint/weak when you're doing something simple like walking? It feels like I might faint. My doctor wants me to include a hour walk in my schedule daily..i really don't know how I'm going to do it when I feel like fainting half the time.

in reply tokeptainicandozatt

Yes, I always feel faint but it seems to feel worse when I am out shopping like in big centres or supermarkets.
