Might be TMI... Ladies, anyone experience pelvic pain with anxiety?

I've been taking zoloft for a few weeks and I'm feeling better in most respects, but for a couple of months now I've been noticing pain and tension in my pelvic and "private" area. My pelvic floor feels like it's tensed up and I can't get myself to consciously relax it. I went to the gyno last month and everything came back normal. Sometimes my lower back and butt will hurt too. Does anyone else deal with this or have any ideas to help?

Hello there! Nice to meet you :) I've had GAD my whole life so anxiety is no stranger! A few years back I had burnout and a very bad bout of anxiety and was put on prozac. During that time, I developed a pain in my pelvic area just like you! I went to the gyno, had lots of tests including an ultrasound, and was even put on an extremely strong bout of antibiotics, but the pain remained. Eventually I went back to my GP who suggested it was the anxiety causing it. I continued on in life and as my anxiety got better, the pain subsided until it dissapeared completely! I used a lot of guided meditations for pain relief during this time, which I believed helped. Just pop on youtube and look for 'meditation pain relief'. If things get any worse I'd advise visiting your gp again but for me reducing my anxiety through meditation and actually generally trying to have more fun when I could helped the pain subside. Feel better soon! :)

Are you able to urinate in the morning without effort or pain, or having to use heat or ice?

in reply toHearYou

I dont have problems urinating but the pain can get worse if I have a full bladder/bowel

Are constipated when you notice this pain??

in reply toGloria_carr

Not necessarily but it can make it harder to pass through

I have fibroids & when i get constipated i get that lower back ache & butt aches during a BM, once its over the back pain goes away

in reply toGloria_carr

Hmmm, if it keeps going I'll see about getting checked for those. I'd say the worst part of my pain is the back side of my vagina though

How is Zoloft working for u??

in reply toChrissyFraser

It's working well! The wordt symptoms were dry mouth and grinding my teeth and being tired/dizzy but it's been about two weeks and it's getting better. I still tend to overthink a lot but my body doesn't physically respond to anxiety as much which is really hepful. Haven't had a panic attack or cried for several days now, like I said just overthinking and general worrying still but I still need more yime on it. It's the 4th medication I've tried and it's been the best one for me so far

Ya I'm just really scared about being on meds cuz of the side effects !! And I don't want to feel weak like I have been though!! And I'm scared that at any minute if i get up I could fall but I've been breathing through it!! And they say not to fight it but to welcome it with opened arms which is really hard for me!! I've been feeling weak and sore throat and it's like I'm wearing a tight band on my head and my feet get sweaty and my hands and I don't feel hungry very much!! But I think I should take something for my anxiety I'm hoping it well calm it down!! I have clonzepam for my anxiety or Ativan and Zoloft or celexa for my depression!! I'm unsure which one to use!!??

in reply toChrissyFraser

I've used celexa too and that was probably second best to zoloft just because it made me throw up every day, and a friend of mine had the same experience. Zoloft has been around for a while so I tried really hard to trust it. I've always quit other meds because of side effects but my anxiety got so bad that i badically figured I have nothing left to lose and just suffered through it. I've had most of your anxiety symptoms as well and a lot of them have gone away already. It's always hard to say whether the med is causing the side effects or if it's increased anxiety about taking the med. I had to take my ativan a lot more the first week but it's been worth it. I recommend you try it, and the symptoms are hard to accept with open arms but I realized only choice is to accept and ride through it or get scared and make it worse

Also look at anxietycentre.com and under symptoms if you scroll all the way to the bottom there is a HUGE list of all the diffetent symptoms anxiety can cause and gives an explanation most of them. This really helped me so I stopped convincing myself I was dying, lol

I was just put on Zoloft 5 days ago for anxiety and panic attacks. I started getting pelvic pain about 3 days ago and have been freaking out about it since. The fear has consumed me. I finally went to the doctors today and they did a urine test and said it was an UTI as they found blood in my urine. I'm not sure what causes it.. but my anxiety just recently started and so did this pelvic pain.

in reply toLvdmarte76

That is really weird! This started happening to me before I took zoloft but it waz right after I tried cymbalta. My urine and pelvic exam and everything came back normal so I'm sure it's anxiety but it's so distracting...

I experienced this on paxil! i ended up having to switch medications

I am experiencing the same kind of pain. I started taking zoloft today but I've been experiencing this pain for a month. I thought there was something wrong with my ovaries since the pain is similar to the pain I had experience when ovulating. My doctor said everything was fine. I still have the pain. So, I have no idea what is causing it but now that I read this it's probably just anxiety. Thank you for sharing. It's good to know that other people are going through similar things.
