Hello,

I hate that you are having a tough time, if you can please try to avoid benzos..they are highly addictive, I know you know because you are a nurse!!!! Lol...my doc stopped prescribing them because they are so addictive....immediately currently taking Atarax for my anxiety.. it's non addicting and non habit forming!! I hope you feel better soon!!!

Thanks for sharing.

How do you like the atarax? From what I've read a lot of people say it makes them very drowsy.

Hello,

Yes it will make you drowsy when you first take it, after that you won't be drowsy anymore lol...I'm on 150 MG of it!!! 50mg 3 times a day!!!

Nope...I'm also on elavil to help me sleep...I have GAD and postpartum OCD...I asked my psychiatrist to not put me on anything that's addictive or habit forming!!! I'm a psychology student so I'm studying a little bit of medicine in combination with all of the mental illness and phobias!!!

Hi Gamerfitmom, I've been on both Ativan & Xanax. No seizures... Both are benzodiazepine meds. Xanax being the one that works the fastest, a quick fix but not meant to stay on for long. Used as a bridge to get you through a horrific event. Ativan takes a little longer to work but still addictive if taken for too long. Despite their addictive qualities, there comes a time that one needs relief while finding other methods of relieving themselves of anxiety symptoms. When on these medications it is suggested to have therapy along with taking the medication. Once you are stabilized, the pills can be weaned slowly.

Whatever your choice is, I wish you well in getting the escape/respite you need at this time. x

You will only have seizures if you have been taking high doses of benzos for a long time, that's if you suddenly stop...that type of medicine should be tapered off slowly under the supervision of a doctor!!!

Hello,

First of all there is nothing wrong with Xanax if it is used appropriately. If you use it as needed for episodes it can work quite well. The way to look at the treatment of anxiety is treating the symptoms and sensations, while you work on the coping treatments. Xanax shuts off the symptoms (for most) and can allow you to focus on coping. Does that make sense? I take it as needed-- sometimes for a few days.. sometimes I dont need it for a month or two. I am working on it, but certainly not addicted or dependent. If it helps its ok to take with medical supervision.
