Hi its true the medication can make you feel a lot worse.but you just have to be patient until they kick in ! Everyone is different but its usually 2 to 6 weeks.

I've been on Citrolopram before and found it did nothing for me even on the max dose. I'm now on Sertraline 6 weeks at 50mg which did nothing and I'm now 2 weeks into a 100mg course which seems to be working better.

Citalopram @ Celexa should improve your mood and make you more relaxed.

The first antidepressant you try doesn't always work or it can cause side effects you really don't like. You might need to try a few different medications until you find one that works for you.

If you get to the four week mark and you really can't stand the side effects, I would be going back to the doctor for a medication review.

I am a tricky patient and ended up having to take a combination of two drugs for the best result.

I hated the trial and error but it is worth it now :)

Hi! I was on citalopram, and like you, didn't really find it too helpful and if anything it made me only more anxious. This is really common with SSRI's because it's changing the levels of neurotransmitters (chemicals) in the brain. As serotonin is responsible for mood, appetite and sleep, these can all be major issues in the first few weeks whilst your brain is adjusting. If the side effects are really causing more harm than good, speak with your doctor to see about alternative medications. Otherwise, keep at it for another week or so, as it's very probable that the side effects will wear off with time :)

I shall stick at it thank you for explaining it I have tried a handful of different drugs I would much rather address what's making me feel unwell rather than keep pushing it down

I am currently on it 20 mg since March I felt so bad in the beginning but I stuck with it the only side effect is a lil weight gain and emotional numbness but other than that I'm okay. I rather deal with that than be anxious all the time
