Had a panic attack now I feel very detached and weird
Hi Jmerrick22, It could very well be the Zoloft that you were just switched to. Each drug takes time as well as working differently in our system. Don't forget that these drugs are working on our brain chemistry so you have to expect some weird sensations. Keep your doctor aware on how you are doing especially after not doing well on Cymbalta. Sometimes young children as well as young adults into their 20's have a harder time adjusting to Zoloft.. Your doctor is aware of your health history and chose the best med for you. However you may need to experience some difficult times until the med reaches full efficacy. (4-6 weeks)
Hang in there and keep using the forum for support. We certainly have all been there when starting on meds. Take care.
The meds relieve you of panic attacks they don't cause them. Clearly whatever meds you're on haven't kicked in yet, some take 3 to 4 weeks.
Hello, I'm sorry you are going through that!! Be careful with SSRIs as they can cause weird side affects...It's the anxiety that cause a weird feeling, sensations etc...I hope we all get to feeling better soon!! I'm currently taking Atarax, so far it's working....I still have my bad Days but not as much as I use too!!! 😊 I know we can fight this!!!
Panic attacks can cause what's called depersonalization or derealization afterwards. Basically what happens is that your brain gets a sensory overload from the panic attack, so it essentially goes into "safe mode" as a defense mechanism, which causes you to feel detached from reality and almost like you're floating in a dream. Unfortunately, it can make the anxiety worse because you feel like you're going crazy, but it's relatively harmless and should wear off after a while. Do your best to keep doing what you're doing and keep taking your medication.
I hope things get better for you-- anxiety is never fun :c
