Been taking lorazepam for years tried to come off three times but was put back on them because of attack. I take 3mg to 4 mg a day. I have a new doctor who wants to see me regarding these tablets. Evetytime in the past I have tried to come off these at three doctors insistence have had terrible withdrawal symptoms. My last doctor who retired was understanding and never forced the issue. I now have thyroid trouble also which doctors cannot seem to get right. Now new doctor will not right out prescription until I see her. I am dreading this because of former bad experiences. I cannot go cold turkey and up until today have been managing my life fine. Now I am dreading tomorrow which is not going to help original anxiety. Can they force me not to take it.

Gillybabe, That's absolutely correct in that you cannot go "cold turkey". Slow and safe cuts are the way to go with a doctor overseeing the weaning. They cannot force you to not take it but their control is by not writing any more scripts. You need to have a straight forward talk with the new doctor who can work out a schedule for you to wean off the drug as she sees fit. It's done according to the dosage and length of time you were on Lorazepam. I wish you well. I've done it myself so I understand your feelings.
