Finally: Hi everyone i hope you are all... - Anxiety Support
Finally
I have a printing of this from 1992 and it is a very good read so great that you managed to get a copy. I find that at times of difficulty it is good to take it out and re-read a few of the chapters relevant to you.
We're is it from x
I ordered it from amazon weeks is a doctor she wrote a book about anxiety
I've heard that book is awesome I'm guna get it to wow a can't wait did she have do you no ?
I dont understand your question
Sorry was ment to say did the doctor who wrote it have anxiety
Yes she did. also check out a website called Anxiety No More created by Paul David and his blog. He also recovered by following the same teachings described by Dr weekes and the website explains it all in a more practical way. Knowledge and understanding how anxiety manifests itself Is key to recovery because it takes away a lot of the fear which is the root cause. This makes it easier to accept what is happening in your mind and body and the symptoms will gradually melt away.
The full title of the book is SELF HELP FOR YOUR NERVES by Dr. Claire Weekes M.B.E, M.B, D.Sc., F.R, A.C.P. Learn to relax and enjoy life again by overcoming fear and nervous tension.
Great read.
Thanks
Congratulations! You may not realise it but you have just taken your first steps on the road to recovery!!!
You will learn that Dr Weekes doesn't teach a technique per se because that implies it is something you do. Doing things to get rid of anxiety only provide temporary relief.
The way to recover is to do nothing about your anxiety. Dr Weekes shows you the way by facing your fears (not running away from them) accepting and floating past the symptoms you fear (allowing all the thoughts and feelings to be there and doing nothing except watch and feel it all willingly ... be ok about not feeling ok) and letting time pass. Time is the healer. With knowledge and understanding of anxiety and how it affects you (feels bad but completely harmless) you are taking the first steps in losing your fear which is the number one driving force behind anxiety. Once you start to lose respect of the symptoms, your mind and body can start the natural healing process. I say heal because anxiety is caused by your nerves which have become sensitised through constant fear, worry and stress which creates more fear. If you apply what you learn, you will break the anxiety cycle and bit by bit and the old (but wiser) you will rise to the surface.
Apart from the book, I also recommend that you visit a website called Anxiety No More and the blog. There is a wealth of advice and guidance from people who are recovering and from those who have recovered the natural way described by Dr Weekes.
The road to recovery isn't smooth and requires a leap of faith (anxiety is just a huge bluff and creates fears that simply won't exist when you recover) but once the penny drops, you will not turn back. keep going forward, don't lose the faith and keep practising acceptance. It will get easier and peace of mind and body will eventually come to you. As sure as night follows day.
Just reading al your replies about Claire Weekes. I found her books 30 years ago and they were my bible. I have come a heck of a long way since then, even overcome cancer inc the horrid treatment chemo & rads. There are however two things I would like to kick in the teeth, crowded auditoriums and visitors staying over. Still get anticipatory anxiet
I could not walk 100yds without crying. We always took our holidays in caravan, mega panic attacks all the while we were away. I was hooked on tranquilisers , I came off them went completely psychotic. The thoughts were horrendous. I went to Canada a few years ago, I did a flying with confidence course , just did the flight because all I was scared of was being trapped NO escape. I have to shake myself sometimes and say 'LOOK HOW FAR YOU'VE COME' ! I cannot believe what I was like.
At present alienated from my two gorgeous granddaughters through a messy divorce, that is hell for me. I have two little boys by youngest son and see them but it doesn't stop me missing the girls.
A thousand miles begins with the first step.
Hugs to all who are suffering fear ,anxiety and depression. I always said we don't need to be scared of hell, we are in it !!
