If you typed this then your heart is beating fine. I always tell myself when I'm panicking, things like "if you're standing you're good" "if you're talking normally you're fine" coz I doubt it if something really was happening to you you wouldn't be able to do those things.

Take some deep breaths. Tell yourself your fine that it's just a panic attack.

Rik1233,

Hopefully things have calmed down by now. Waking up in a state of panic is one of the scariest things ever. I go through phases where I do this off and on for a few months at a time. Just like Angiecis22 said, " You know your heart is beating if you can get online a write a post." However, these panic attacks always seem so real, it can be confusing. I don't know about you, but I usually find that I wake up to a panic attack if my dreams are particularly vivid and include people or places that my mind wont allow me to go while I am awake. It isn't necessarily a bad thing. For example, many times my panic attack wakes me up when I have a very vivid dream about my parents (who both passed in 2011).

A couple reasons you should mention these nighttime terrors to your doctor are as follows.

1. Sleep apnea can also cause symptoms very similar to waking up with a panic attack. Heavy heartbeat, sense of doom, and the foggy feeling that remains after.

2. There may be other issues going on that could be contributing to this. It is important for your doctor to put them all together. Also, for you to keep a record of. Nowadays you must be your own advocate.

Good luck and take care,

Kimbergram

Hey there, listen I used to suffer awful panic attacks and trust me your not dying it's purely adrenaline. I still get a bit panicked and worry a lot but no where near as much as I used to. Try seeing your doctor and ask for CBT cancelling. It's helps a lot! They will get to the rout of your panicking and teach you how to cope with it :)
