Laura,
10 days ago I had my gallbladder removed by surgery under general anesthetic. Like you I was quite anxious about being " put unconscious". However, I found that with really kind and professional nurses and doctors, coupled with the attitude of stepping back and just observing the scary thoughts in my head, I came through it with just background anxiety. When it came to the anesthetic, I was talking to the guy fixing me to the heart monitor about my job, which he had asked me about, while the other two members of the team were dealing with the needle into the hand. The next thing I remember is waking up in the recovery room ! I asked how long I had been in surgery, the nurse said 2 hours!
In the end, it was much easier than I thought, although the post-op pain gets me down a bit sometimes.
Hi Laura its fine have had 7 I had the same fear as you on the first occasion Its not that bad at all they talk you through it and it happens in seconds one minute there you are all scared the next you just fall asleep and don't know anything about it They monitor everything and may give you a sedative before to calm you Afterwards you will wake up its fine You will get loads of TLC don't you go worrying anymore Good Luck x
