Quick question: Is depersonalization forever... - Anxiety Support
Quick question
Hey! Im seventeen, too. The thing with DP is it is your minds way of protectinf yourself. However, it can take monthd of NOT REACTING for this symptom to go away. The key? The key is to stay calm and impassive towards it. Its not forever. Those who have like, DP disorder, i believe, have anxiety that they just didnt address so this symptom stuck around. Not forever. Dont believe it is. Have a confident attitude.this WILL go away, but in the meantime, you wont stress over it. You willlet yourself be. Thats the mindest you gotta get.
Thank you darling ❤️
Hey maybe we could help eachother out because we are the opposite! I had DP, and I was able to overcome that, but I'm still working on overcoming my anxiety and depression, how were you able to overcome it? As for DP, ugh yea I know the feeling, it sucks, but it doesn't last forever. Yes it is a way of the mind protecting itself after its been put in alot of stress and anxiety. It makes sense why you are feeling that way because you have had to battle with anxiety and depression. Those two take alot of energy and emotion out of you. Try to think positive. Alot of the times for when we feel DP is because there is no motivation, maybe try to look up inspirational quotes. Also when you do that you distract the mind, which is very helpful. I hope my advice helped you some, and don't give your feeling of DP any spotlight, because if you do it'll shine brighter. Keep your head up kiddo you'll be fine, I know it. I went through it and came out alive, and so will you
Hi, we're about the same age! I too have been suffering from depersonalization/derealization for about 10 months, non stop. It's so super scary! Do you ever feel like you don't recognize yourself in the mirror or the people around you? My worst fear is "going crazy" and I panic over it 24/7, it sucks that people don't understand. It's such a terrible thing to live with but hopefully in time we'll get better! I found a few things that help though; DISTRACTION- this helps alot! As soon as I feel my dp getting really bad I distract myself with pinterest, instagram, youtube, twitter, a movie, a book, etc.. and it does really help to get your mind off of it. I've also noticed that forcing yourself to get out of the house (as hard as it could be) helps too. There is this book called, "At Last A Life" by Paul David and it helped me sooo much. You can find the PDF free online to download but I ended up liking it so much I bought the physical copy. It talks all about dp/dr with anxiety and it describes it spot on. Anway, sorry this is so long! I really hope this awful condition does go away eventually.
