I get them all the time and I feel like I'm having a heart attack it also goes in to my back as well
I went to ER/Heart Hospital back in February thinking I was having some sort of heart problem. I'm 35, run everyday, eat somewhat healthy, but have heart problems in my family. It ended up being dehydration but a nurse saw that I had a small level of troponin in my blood work and she mentioned that I had suffered a heart related issue (this started my anxiety). Even though my Cardiologist cleared that diagnosis after I forced him to do an angiogram along with EKG, Chest X-Ray, CT-Scan, 24 Hour Heart Monitor, etc. I still THINK that I'm having heart issues.
The scare from the nurse did something to me mentally which I'm fighting daily. I have two girls that I don't want to leave (they are 4 and 3).
Long story short, the chest pains went away for a few months with me getting back to exercising and taking a 0.5mg of Xanax in the mornings. Well, my prescription ran out and I failed to go pick it up on a Thursday. I felt wonderful and didn't think it was a rush to go get..... 4 days later I had a small panic attack while trying to go to sleep because all the original chest pains came back. I got back on the meds and I'm still having the chest discomfort/pain for the past month.
I KNOW IT'S ANXIETY, but it's hard to make my brain realize it. I focus on it 24 hours a day. Once I can accept it, it will go away......It's just aggravating. Another reason that I know it's nothing serious is that the pain subsides during the morning hours when I have Xanax in me. It disappears while I'm exercising. It's completely gone while I'm sleeping at night. It disappears when I have drinks with family and friends. A major heart related problem would NOT disappear.
Fears are the deep hidden culprit of panic attacks. From my many expensive visits to professionals, I have extracted this: find the fears --- even if you must journal your thoughts and feelings during your panic attacks. After closely monitoring my attacks I found out that the fearful event had already happened 1 week prior and it took my mind and body to internally send me shock waves of Panic from it today. Usually the fear inducing event already occurred --- or it's coming up on a calendar --- a deadline, having a meeting, a family event....a family reunion (that event alone can have your heart hooked up to an EKG machine in record time!)
