Severe increase in symptoms prior to period

Recently diagnosed with postpartum anxiety. I'll have sever al great days or weeks in a row with little to no anxiety, then a few days before my period comes I turn into a mess. I have extreme anxiety, panic attacks, inconsolable crying, racing thoughts, feelings of hopelessness. Does this sound like PMDD? My doctor recently adjusted my meds and added ativan. Anyone else with the same problem? Have others tried birth control to help level hormones?

I get the same way when my period is due i think its because of the extra hormones. I didnt know that birth control can help to control hormones is this true?
