I know exactly what you mean. It's like they just take over your mind! I do several things....read something positive or listen to Louise Hay youtube.com/watch?v=C4ZmBJA... hope this helps...your in my thoughts! Take Care!
Meditationcan help- understanding where thethoughts come from and trying to change the way you respond.
For me it was constant intrusive thoughts of death. My break through was 'visualising' them as unwanted visitors and realising what I was doing was cowering behind the sofa hoping they would go away when what I needed to do was open the door and just politely tell them to go away - I knew they would be back and I would have to do that a number of times but it actually worked much quicker than I was expecting.
Part of the explanation of why it worked is understanding how the part of the brain that deals with fear and anxiety works - which is by sending you an image of the consequences of the danger - good if you need to run away from a bear but lousy if the danger is stress and you need to go away and calm down. The tendency with stress is something that just scares or makes you even more anxious and it quickly spirals out of control - so what you need to do is break that cycle. I still get thoughts of death very occasionally but now the response is 'oh I'm stressed - thank you brain - I'll go and do something else for a while that makes me feel relaxed' ... so then I go and do something else for a while - like the sudoku or going for a run.
When you find calm these thoughts will lose their power...
An overactive mind will produce all sorts of thoughts....
You are not your thoughts, these are a produce of a racing mind...
Try reading Stop Thinking Start Living by Richard Carlson very good at helping to stop letting thoughts affect you

For starters talk to someome. Somtimes actually speaking to another person or professional helps clear things up and its away to just let it all out. Good luck keep your head up. The other thing is dont be ashamed to talk about it moatter what. Whats impotiant is your dealing with it
