Hello, so ive suffered from anxiety for years. This is something that happened to me about 3 years ago and it came back recently. For the last 5 nights ive maybe slept 2-3 hours a night. As i am dozing off my mind makes my heart jump and wake me up, i know it is my mind doing this but i cant stop it from doing it. It is very frustrating, so basically im the one telling my heart to do this but i cant control it. Its very strange. I cant remember how i stopped this from happening last time. its like my subconscious wont allow me to sleep. I think about it all day at work, and it is really effecting my life. Im trying to put mind over matter and just fall asleep but i keep doing this. The only night ive had decent sleep is when i was drinking. I was so relaxed i just fell right asleep. As i am starting to fall asleep i aready think about what is going to happen so im like anticipating this happening. I feel like i dont have control over it its very frustrating and scary. Im starting to think this will never go away and its stressing me out.

Cant Sleep! Heart jumps right before i go to sleep.
Hey I have this too. It's like a jolt like your heart skips a beat and you're awake with a pounding heart and you're like FML. I have seen when I worry about it before every time I sleep it happens more often. If I am relaxed and had a good day I don't have this issue at all. The more you think about this the more it stays in your mind and gets reinforced. Then it keeps happening over and over. Next time you anticipate it say to yourself so what if I happens? It's happened so many times before too and it hasn't killed me. So whatever. Eff this shit. And believe me if you really give no real attention to it. That if it happens let it happen what's the worse that can happen? I'll be uncomfortable with the heart beat but whatever. Worrying isnt solving it. So let's try another road. I hope you feel better soon. Lots of hugs
Hi, this happens to me often. It's called a hypnic jerk or sleep start. Harmless, but very annoying. I'll also get what I call a brain zap. Along with that jolt right before I fall asleep, I'll get this zap/electric buzz in my head that makes my ears feel like I've just gone under water....you know that sensation? Both are VERY common with us anxiety sufferers.
