When I was an Apprentice I would have to climb telegraph poles, I suffered vertigo.

I had to climb until they moved me to a non climbing job.

I was told not to look down and keep my head and eyes onto the horizon. When I came down I was told to look at the pole and not to look up or down,

When on roofs and ladders it was the same, keep your body a distance from the thing you climb and look along the surfaces you climb if you need to feel the ladder or other surface you are climbing. Some people are like monkeys others just freeze.

All I can ask is what are you climbing ??.

Have you seen your GP. ??

Sometimes if you have a hearing problem or infection that can affect your balance, vertigo as your ears help our balance so on occasions the problems are to do with your ears, sometimes neck as if you turn your head suddenly you will feel dizzy

Vertigo/dizziness/balance problems are symptoms of anxiety. I have these problems. I'm pretty sure it's the result of tension in back/shoulders/neck muscles, affecting the nerves that control the balance mechanism. Seems many people have these symptoms. Try to accept it's part of anxiety. carry out day to day activities (not easy), as best you can. The more you focus on it the worse it gets. Some people have palpitations, tight chest and throat etc with anxiety. Different with everyone. I don't take meds, because I think they just bring their own problems/side effects. Try to lose your fear of the symptom, that's whats keeping the anxiety alive. A secondary fear after your initial anxiety issue came about.

I have problem with this too. I've had it off and on for a long time. My dr seemed to think it is from stress. And it may be. But I also know it can be an inner ear problem and that can be harder to diagnose. I believe that when it is inner ear the symptoms are much worse...throwing up for one. I try to not fight it. I drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and I just try to live my life as normally as possibly. I make myself walk and try to notices head around quickly. It is tough...my best wishes to you. Hope you feel better and are able to cope with this condition. The suggestions from others will all help.

Hi I had vertigo and being off balance for about 25 years. It totally took over my life and I could never go anywhere alone and was not keen about going out even with someone with me. Have even had it so very bad have had to have people help me to the loo. Its the most dreadful thing I had ever had to go through. I saw every specialist and had just about every test going from my brain to my eyes to my ears.Nothing was every found and I had cbt a few times and they said it was very bad anxiety and I had to learn to live with it. I was even too scared to collect my children from school most days. It all but destroyed 25 years of my life. People even asked my friend if I was a alcoholic as I could not walk straight most of the time. Many times people asked me if I had been in a accident as I used to hand my head a bit to one side and it looked like I had hurt my neck. 4 years ago my periods stopped as I was approaching 50 and can not believe this but vertigo and off balance have all but gone as well. Very occasionally I will get it if I am very stressed over something but its short lived now and only a couple of times a year.

No one ever understood and thought I could somehow press a button and make it go away. I really hope you find out whats going on to make you have this.
