Not feeling well.

I am dealing with lots of neck pain on the back right side and on the side of my neck. I am overwhelmed with face pain on my right side of my face. Pain all over. My nerves feel like a lot of miss firing. I feel like my body is shaking a lot. As I type I feel like my neck is shaking...my muscle feel like they "get stuck" almost like paralyzed but still move. I have had so many test...lupus, lyme, ms, CBC, thyroid, mono, arthritis, I'm sure more I can't think of. Everything is normal. I feel so horrible I am convinced something is going on. The only response I hear over and over is anxiety and I am doing this to myself. Oh and some say fibromyalgia. I don't want to take medicine that will cause damage down the road. I do want to make it down the road though. I take some supplements in hopes to help. Can anyone relate? Any ideas...I have been going through this for about 5 years now...pain comes and goes. My husband doesn't believe, my Mother doesn't believe, my friends are burnt out by my symptoms. Really so am I. I feel so alone!

I too have been suffering with this for a long time. The latest "examination" I am having is an appointments at the Dental hospital attached to our local medical school. My pain also goes across my chest and everything is sore to touch. I have been told it could be fibromyalgia and was given painkillers, but as I am on warfarin what I am given do not put the pain away. I have tried every holistic treatment to no avail. I have been given antidepressants for the pain but all they have done is spaced me out and I actually flt worse. I, too, would like some ideas of how to progress with his so that I can get back to some normality of life.

Just your words are comfort. I can't explain how alone I feel. I wish you all the best with the dental hospital. If you can keep me posted. Wishing you the best!

Have you had an MRI for your neck ?

Wondered if the discs were causing some pain. They were for me, wishing you good luck x

I have in the past...maybe 2 or 3 years ago. My neurologist said this may be the next step. Thanks for your response..

Just wanted to follow up, I spoke with my neurologist yesterday and he has set up an appointment for an MRI. Hope all is well.

Thanks for the update, hope the MRI sheds light on your pain. It's so distressing and depressing. At least you'll be able to treat the cause. :)

My advice first of all is avoid the doctors who tell you it's in your head or you are doing it to yourself. This is a sure sign they are out of ideas and quite frankly is an insult. Family and friends get frustrated and feel helpless just as you do. They want to help you too. I'm guessing that their disbelief stems from some doctors diagnosis that your doing it to yourself.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but you wont find anyone here telling you there's nothing wrong with you.

I have experienced all the symptoms you describe and been told it was "all in my mind" and implied that I was lying and making it up; treated very badly by some so called "specialists " that I saw. I got this about 15 years ago and over the past 12 years or so it has been helped but not made better by any means by doing Pilates , yoga, exercising phsyio type exercises on the spine every day for at least 2 hours and also minimizing things like reading or sitting for very long.

Whereas my pain was very high nowadays I am always in pain but it can be manageable unless I try to do too much which for me is not very much at all in terms of what some people would consider "normal". I could not sit at an office desk for example for more than couple of hours a week. Typing on the computer I find using a laptop and sitting on soft seating at home and literally putting the laptop on my lap is much better than trying to sit at a desk.

I would expect there is a physical element to your condition as I still believe there is with mine. I believe a fall set mine off; no-one believed the symptoms were as bad as they are because I manage them all the time and also people get fed up with hearing about it. My life will never be the same as it was 15 years ago from that point of view. I don't have any answers but I do not expect this is all in your mind though stress can make any pain worse. I wonder if anti-depressants or sleeping tablets can cause these symptoms as I am addicted to sleeping tablets and wonder whether over the years they have contributed.

I really feel for you; I am still often disbelieved. It has got a fair bit better when I "manage" it which I have to all the time. You will find the best way for you. For me it is these physio type of exercises that I do everyday and like i said yoga and pilates on an everyday basis. For others this is not the answer depending on the condition and rest could be a good thing.

Keep faith in yourself and that it is not all in your mind. Sending you my sympathies.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I wish you many blessings and comfort. I started yoga once a week out. I did buy a few DVDs to work at home too. I try to be positive, but I worry how much more pain I can handle...I am so thankful for each day I have. I am blown away to hear how many people are effected by horrible pain daily. I can't thank you enough for your response....best wishes...

Hi Momo,

Sorry to hear you are going through it at the moment. I take it you've been to a physio or chiropractor to ensure that your posture and neck are aligned? I personally visit a Mctimoney chiropractor in the UK about twice a year, as slightly bad posture habits at my computer desk lead to neck problems etc, which he puts right. For example, I've discovered that if the computer screen is not exactly straight on, and at eye level, I get a bad neck over time. Using laptops can be a health hazard in this respect, as people tend to gaze down at them, when in fact the middle of the screen should be in line with your eyes when you sit up straight (so use a few thick books etc to raise the laptop height).

Good posture of course entails sitting straight and square on at the screen, knees close together, and the keyboard and mouse close to you, so you're not reaching out and causing RSI. Anything else will cause neck/back/rsi problems over time.

Also I suggest two effective approaches which have worked for me and many others to improve physical and mental wellbeing. First get a consultation with a good ayurvedic doctor or consultant, who will treat you on the basis of just three possible imbalances in your system, either vata, pitta or kapha, (Google these for more info).

Ayurvedic natural approaches to health have done wonders for me over the years, just astonishing in some cases (ie. I suffered severe acne-type symptoms on my back every summer since being a teenager and nothing my doctor gave me would improve it, even anti-histamine. Boils on my back were painful and would burst at night when I rolled onto them, so not nice. So when an ayurvedic doctor told me a 3 day course of purifying treatment (called panchakarma) would cure the problem, I thought "yeah, right!". But sure enough, just one week after an enjoyable treatment with herbs and relaxing massage, the acne eruptions and pain were gone for good, and I felt a much calmer and healthier person, years younger ...and that was over 20 years ago and the acne never returned.. The problem was that toxins had built up in my system from bad eating habits (eating too late at night (after 7pm), and eating too much refined sugar and e-numbers etc. the ayurvedic doc said).

The other thing I suggest doing is to learn Transcendental Meditation from a qualified teacher. I learned over 10 years ago and wouldn't be without it. TM, as you may know, is the most effective meditation technique available and is recommended by hundreds of doctors in the UK and USA etc as well as the American Heart Association, which has research studies on its site showing how effective TM is in reducing blood pressure, normalizing hormones, and increasing happiness and well-being etc. TM is taught as a course over 4 days and isn't cheap, but its a one off payment and the effects on physical and mental health can be quite dramatic and amazing (one friend I know described life after learning TM as 'having that holiday feeling every day').

Google "transcendental meditation research studies".

Also you could try taking just two types of ayurvedic herbs daily to strengthen mind and body. One is Ashwaghanda powder, which has a settling effect and at the same time provides energy and strength. The other is the excellent brain tonic called Brahmi powder. I buy both in organic form from the internet and take a heaped teaspoonful of ashwaghanda twice a day in a little warm water, and about the same for the brahmi powder, which tends to be bitter, but the bitterness is actually part of the healing/purifying effect, as it reduces pitta (heat imbalance in the body). Google both for more info.

"Ashwaghanda powder". Brahmi powder (also know as Gotu Kola).

Best wishes,

RonNW
