Dreading sleep

I'm so exhausted but terrified to fall asleep. I do not want to wake up gasping for air ever again. I have never been so scared in my life.

I don't know what to do about this.

I don't see my dr for another 2 days.

I think talking to people like you just did by posting will help. Maybe try to think of happy things or listen to good happy music before going to bed or have some happy music on while you sleep to put good dreams and thoughts in your mind

Hello adalton

Thank you for your reply and that may not be a bad idea having music on all night. Think I may try that n see how it goes.

I do have a relaxation tape that came with my self help program but haven't listened to it in over a week

Just read an arrival that said when you wake up in a panic try to ground yourself by telling your self where you are and surveying the actual surroundings. They called t grounding yourself. Making yourself aware of your time and your space which will help you tune out irrational fear

Good morning pink :-) Ohhhh still having horrid nights? Dunno what I do when I'm like that. What games have you got on your phone? Do you have other chat apps? That's the only way I seem to calm down. Doing boring but mind games like candy crush etc :-p

Reading or watching TV might take your mind off things and help you sleep.

Are you gasping through panic? A few months back, I woke up choking and gasping and I'd actually fallen asleep on my back and my tongue has slipped back and temporarily blocked my air way. If it is something like that, try to sleep on your side or stomach.

I hope you get some sleep soon.

Hey AngiW

I wish I knew what is causing it but it's happened twice now and it happens when I sleep on my right side. It terrifies me and no one should be afraid to sleep.

I see my dr in 2 days I hope she has answers and solutions

damn that must freak you out,

I've had something similar happen, I woke up out of my sleep just scared for no apparent reason and it caused me to freak out pretty bad, I was forced to stay awake because I was too scared to fall asleep

Hi Evey

Thank you for the response means a lot. I'm so tired of living this way.

I just want to feel normal and be able to relax and sleep. I used to love sleep at one time but now it's something I dread and that's the worst feeling :(

Do you ever wake up feeling like u can't breathe and gasping for air??? Or is something wrong with me :(

You should talk to your doc about this. It could be Sleep Apnoea. This is something that causes you to stop breathing and you wake up gasping for breath. It usually happens with people who have fat around their neck and throat area but not always. It can be treated.

Yes I'm aware and I actually see my dr tomorrow so we shall see what she has to say.

I've been told that I do snore so it's a possibility

Hi pink. .. I've been having Tue same prob lately.. but I don't wake up in the middle of the night.. for me it happens when I first try to go to sleep or lately Ive been getting up early like 5 am for no reason. . Well if I wake up early and then try and go back to sleep it will happen again. For me its like I'm laying there and just when I start to fall asleep I jolt awake and feel like my heart has stopped and I can't breathe. Scary as heck! And now that I've been experiencing this for 3-4 nights now I anticipate it and that's all I think about while I'm laying there and I can't get to sleep because of it. Its soooo annoying. Hope u feel better! Just thought id chime in and let ya know your not alone .. better days ahead! :-)
