I have started back on my medication properly after one day taking it and the next day forgetting but I have now started taking it properly, does anyone have side effects, i.e. sore sinuses, tiredness, weepy, shaky, feel like a panic attack is about to come on?? Or is this just me??

Hi Gilly.

You may find that until your meds are completely in your system about 4-6 weeks you will get some side effects but they will lessen as you go on. Just remember to take them at a regular time.

Take care Kenny

Hi Gilly I've been on citalopram 10mg for nearly 3 months I had some horrible side effects I stuck with them and as Kenny says they take about 4-6 weeks I started to feel better after about 3 weeks but as he says take them at a regular time which I do I take them every day at 8am with food. Take care xx

Hi Gilly

I had lots of side effects when started taking citalopram including headaches, dizziness, nausea, tiredness, unable to sleep but I stuck with them. It took about 4 weeks to get used to them. I am on 40mg per day now. Would suggest that you see your gp regularly until your dose is working

Thanks for the reply it is reassuring that other people feel this way, I am so tired but have such an awful nights sleep, felt a wee bit better last night but took my tablet 2 hours ago and now my head is splitting, did you feel off balance a bit too??

Hi Gilly I had exactly the same I thought my head was going to explode I went to my local Boots and spoke to the pharmacy who told me not to give up the headaches would go in a few days and yes they did. He also said they were one of the best a/d drugs. I also had upset stomach that is why I take mine with my breakfast believe me you will get there. Thinking of you. Xx

Hi Gilly

Yes feel a bit dizzy some of the time too. For me I don't think the side effects have gone away, I've just learnt to live with them

Hi Gilly,

I was the same I suffered really bad with lack of sleep and tiredness. Ive been on 40mg for about three years and they have help a lot. I have just started to get some side effects again and I am in the process of lowering my dosage to see how I get on. Give it chance to work and you will feel the benefits. Take care. x
