Hi Gibbo

I haven't too this med but I am sure someone that has will be able to answer

Sometimes the dosage can need increasing or maybe a different med , it is always best to have a word with your GP if you feel they are not working as well

Just wanted to say Welcome :-)

Love

Hi There thank you. Im so new to this I didn't even know that there were links like this. To be honest my GP is not very helpful at all every time I go back to see them they just ask me what I want instead of telling me what I need. I feel that Ive been on them that long im even sure I know my own mind or body.

Hi

I hope you will find some comfort on here by talking how you feel everyone has or does suffer with anxiety so someone will always relate to how you feel

It doesn't sound like you have a very good GP , I have has GP'S asked me before what I want or what is wrong with me & I have thought well that's why I am here so you can tell me !!!

You need to be listened to & advised professionally when it comes to medication , have you thought about seeing a different GP in the same surgery but hopefully they will be more helpful :-)

Hi , Yes I have an appointment tomorrow. I was referred to a mental health therapist I have seen her once and now she is off ill so I have to wait. Feel so confused feel so confused about who to turn or what to do. Its starting to effect my job now. Thanks xx

in reply toGibbo1981

Hi

I can imagine you feel confused but even though it may not feel like it things will get better

I am not a doctor but I think your meds might need adjusting & hopefully your appointment tomorrow will get that sorted out

Have they said how long the therapist may be of ill

Again you could always contact them & let them know how you are struggling they may give you an appointment with someone else , it is worth a try

Let us know how you get on :-)

Hi and welcome :)

I'm really sorry you don't have a very good doctor, I do know how you feel though, as I've come across doctors like that.

I would as whywhy has suggested ask to see another doctor.

It does sound like your dosage may need looking at.

I'm always around if you want a chat:) xx

I more often than not feel like a zombie so tired all the time and an not be bothered with any thing. And I can not concentrate on anything.xx

Hi

I take 40mg of citalopram each morning and am tired a lot of the time but am sure I'd be worse if I stopped taking them also know if wanted to change meds that you have to be weaned off them which I find quite scarey.

Hi Gibbo

I have citalapram and they work well for me. They take some time to really work properly though. Like others have suggested talk with a GP. Don't be fobbed off by the Dr's either. Remember they are supposed to advise you not give you meds and send you away. Ask to see a different GP and get more advice. They often think that once you are placed with the therapists they don't have to be bothered with you again, this is not so, and you have a right to proper treatment. Keep posting here too, it really helps. All the best. X

Thank you so much for the advice. It nice yo tslk to people who understand. Xx

Hi, I took 20mg of citralopram for about 3 years it worked wonderfully for me.I was able to do everything I wanted to do and probably more. Although after a life changing event and coming through the grieving stage my anxiety hit me with a huge rock! The dr upped my dose to 30mg I got worse not better! So my tablets have been changed. However I do feel that citralopram helped me a lot and I do miss it really! As the new tablets are taking a long time to get right (nearly a year).

I still would see your dr or try and see another one in your surgery, I think it helps to know the doctor and they know exactly what is troubling you. I really hope you get it sorted and you get the right dose that helps you

Take care xx

Hi I took Citalopram for about 5 months it seemed to have an initial beneficial effect after about 6 weeks but not sure if this was a placebo or because I had already been off work 2 months and was starting to calm down anyway. The benefits did not last when I returned to work and because of previous history with other meds increasing the dose did not help me but for other people getting the right one at the right dose can be a godsend. I am on a med mixture now and back at work, tough some days but try to keep in mind that suffering from anxiety makes U highly sensitised so things that would not normally impact. Don't add more anxiety by worrying about the symptoms if U can like lack of concentration, always feeling on edge etc. Just symptoms which sadly lots of people get. Keep your focus outwards on others and keep in touch with supportive friends. The MH worker should be able to help you with your thinking. Take care Mike

Thanks everyone for the advice. Docs weren't very helpful yet again. I think the only person who can help me is me. Does any one know of a self help site's to take a look at? Thanks Mike for your advice. Xx

you are so right! forget the meds and docs! the only one who can help is oneself! and how empowering is that! when you know...I did it!!!

Not sure if recommending books is ok by the ones from Dr Claire Weekes are great for making sense of your symptoms which is half the understanding u need and also suggest thinks to help. They are paperbacks and cheap on Amazon. Also depending on probe U live going to a local anxiety support group might help. i wish there was one near me, might even look to start one if II can get advice/help. Went for a coffee with a friend yesterday and listened to their probs, took me away from inward focus. One good thing to come out of anxiety is when U get better and U will U appreciate every day stuff others take for grant. Good luck with your journey. Mike

was taking this it made me suffer with anxity so i came of it and im fighting anxity more now feeling crap

Hi as to my 4 months on citalopram I found it increased my anxiety 20 mgs a day. When on only one tablet doesn't take much to working out what was making anxiety worse so along with GP I stopped citalopram . It took a good two weeks to feel better from that tablet .My GP said I've a low tolerance to these kind of tablets and genetics play a roll in how people react to them, and just maybe hormones have a part to play in our anxiety, this has crossed my mind in past 8yrs I've suffered with it .Women and men got hormones and both sexes suffer from it just my thoughts on citalopram. I see my GP this week she thinks a short term on HRT 3 to 6 months no longer nothing ventured just another not tried avenue Wishing you better days and a big post hug xx

Thank you. Ive decided to come off it. Ive been taking it for about five years. It did work to start with but just lately ive started to notice things. So went to see my gp and he said to try come off yhis and go onto something else. So at the moment ive gone from 40 to 20mg and im not having a good experience its made me quite ill and my moods are all ovrr the place anf I csnt eat. Its driving me mad. What did you go onto after coming off citilapram? Thanks for the advice. Xxtake care

Hi in reply to citalopram I went solo on products from popular Heath Food shop well worth a browse if like me your sensitive to prescription drugs ,one caution if your on blood pressure tabs check before hand they don't interact ,there are site checkers for this , at present I'm on the odd 2mgs of diazepam because of tablet sensitivity I tread carefully ,I've taken 21 tabs since last September but not to bad to date with after affects touch wood.Im convinced hormones play a big part in our anxiety like all of us I want anxiety gone period I don't know what you,ve tried prior to citalopram I've had higher anxiety with a lot of them . My anxiety began with a bad head virus 8 yrs ago hospital believe it was shingles I had Do let me know how you go on .ps since virus I've had 2 lots skin cancer ,tinnitus ,rhinitis broken arm, and a neck tumor op last march my GP says I've had a lot of stress to cope withIn these 8 yrs Do let me know how you get on and always here for a chat about anything it's good to talk as only we know god bless from singers in a wet Dorset xx
