Does anxiety cause physical pain? If yes how to cope?

Hi, I'm new to this group. I was wondering if anybody else experiences pain as a result of anxiety? I have a chronic tension headache and very sore neck and shoulders. This has been going on for years and is very bad at the moment and I feel physically exhausted. Does anyone else feel like this?

Hi and welcome to the site.

Unfortunately anxiety can cause a lot of physical symptoms and they are real. If you have not been to your GP then I would suggest you do. It is very hard to treat pain caused by anxiety it is only when we start to control our feeling that we seem to ease everything else. You could try relaxation CD it may help.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi thanks for your welcome and reply. I've been on a very long road trying to control pain and anxiety. I am trying relaxation and mindfulness at the moment but it's like fighting a war armed with a twig!!

There will always be someone on this site who are able to give advice even if its only to listen you. Sometimes even the mightiest foe will succumb to the smallest of weapons, keep trying

Hi and welcome to the site,I understand its very hard to try and relax when tension and anxiety is at an high but if you force yourself to sit or lie down to listen to a relaxation CD etc eventually with slow deep breaths you will relax and it will get easier each time' but sometimes the word and the thought of relaxing automatically gives us tension and if you can think of a really happy memories or something you annoyed take yourself back there in your mind it will work but will take a little practice. Hope you feel better soon x

Hi

Yea I get headaches because of anxiety but I suffer worse with cramping and feeling sick, I get butterflies all the time like when you were a child and you were nervous because you were in trouble that's how I feel all the time... Constantly it has been like this for me for about two years.. I hope you feel better soon

Hi and welcome:)

Yes I suffer with tension all over!

I do Mindfulness too and swear by it.

I can suggest a couple of apps/websites, calm.com and headspace both are really good.

I do headspace in the morning and calm.com during the day:)

Hope that helps

Hugs

Hi and welcome!

I suffer the same as you the tension he aches tense neck and shoulders. Doctors are surprised by how hard my neck and shoulders feel.

I have been taking long baths with lavender scented candles before I go to bed and it has helped my body physically but mind is something else. I sometimes also want to shut down my only escape is when I sleep

Hi I suffer with anxiety real bad but I have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia as was experiencing pain all over my body in different areas. Might be worth talking to your doc about it.

Hi yes it does cause all kinds of pain and lots of other physical symptoms, which is hard to believe that anxiety could do this, but it actually does. Sorry to hear your are suffering atm,and you sound like me with the meds I try to avoid them because of side affects to, I will send you some healing if you wish, stay strong.
