What to expect ?
Hi
Well I am pleased you have got your appointment , it sounds like you have been waiting a while
I no it can feel very daunting when we first go to see our GP , wondering what to say & what will they think
Well as to what they will think to what you say , they have heard it all before & nothing you say will shock them so make the most of this appointment & get it all out , the more you can tell them will help them to discuss what they can do to help you personally
I dont no if you have any idea what you may consider as far as treatment
Is it medication , counselling or even both , as remember you have a say in what you would like to try as well as them suggesting & dont be afraid to ask or say no if its not what you feel comfortable with
It is also a good idea , to write down a few notes to take with you & if you start getting tongue tied , you can read from them or even pass them to them as so many of us do this when we struggle
They cant give us a quick fix as meds can take a few weeks before they start to work , but if you have a good GP you should come out feeling a weight has been lifted of your shoulders once you no you have your GP as well as talking on here for support
Let us no how you go on
Love

Dear Zugzwang,
I would like to say, well done for making an appointment.
I went to see my GP for anxiety and panic attacks, after I had already had arranged councelling(self referal) and had had quite a few sessions of councelling. I did know a bit about anxiety already. I went to my GP mainly for medication for anxiety and panic attacks and also diagnosis confirmation.
From what I can remember the GP asked me what my symptoms where and I did my best to tell him, things such as weak legs, sweating during the panic attacks etc. He listened to what i had to say and also asked my about possible feelings of depression. He then, from what I can remember confirmed that it appeared that I had panic attacks.
He then suggested medication, citralopram in my case.
He came across as interested and wanting to know what the issue was.
He has been supporting since.
I wish you well.
warmest regards,
Marcus
I had to go to the dr. a few times before they took me seriously and actually started treatment so my advice would be to do everything whywhy said but to also don't let them fob you off IF they try to. I'm sure you'll be fine x
Try and make the most out of this appointment and let it all out out even if it seems trivial. The Dr has the duty to listen and help you in whatever way that feels comfortable with u. There's no quick fix for anxiety but you've made a good start. wish u all the best. Matosh
Good on you for making an appointment. I sometimes find it's easier to write things down and take it otherwise I come out and say, 'Bu...er, I forgot to tell him that!!!' So if you make a list of all your symptons before you go and make the best use of your appointment your GP should be able to support and help you. Good luck. Julie xx
Thanks for the advice and support again feeling more ready now that i made up a list for tomorrows appointment.
