Anxiety off the scale

Hi all, hope things are well. Had 4 hours sleep, zopiclone induced. This morning anxiety is really high, 4 weeks on 50mg of sertraline and 2 weeks on 100mg. Have said I will go back to work on Monday after six weeks off. Not sure if this is a good or bad idea. Maybe work will take my mind off my constant anxiety worry. Any thoughts anyone

Hi Bramble, from what you have said about how long and how much you are taking of the meds, it maybe a good idea to go back to your docs, do you think they are working at all, they say there should be some difference after 4weeks. You can only decide what to do about work, maybe should have waited another month, so you could really access if meds are doing enough for you to be able to cope with work. As thinking of work may have put pressure on you, hence anxiety.

Hi bonnie, had 4 good days at week 4,doc increased meds to 100mg and been up and down since, doc said it would take 2 weeks to start working, which is tomorrow.

I see, yes maybe the new dose of 100mg will kick in soon, they do say don't they around 6 weeks altogether, if you are back to work tomorrow, the only thing I can say is see how you are in the morning, you must put you first, I no we want to keep our jobs if possible. I went with anxiety 2 years ago, I was off for a year of which I got full pay, I went back and lasted 3months, everyday was a nightmare and had to leave more than I was there, i felt that if i had the time i needed i would maybe be there now. they then paid half pay for another 6 months, then nothing. And now lost a good paid job, that I loved. So what I want to say is, do they no the problem? if so is there any chance you could speak to them, you could get certificate from doc for another 2 weeks, they wont be able to get rid of you on that.

Hi bonnie,I've been paid for 6 weeks, but have been told that I will have to go on ssp if I don't go back Monday,I am not in a position financially to live on ssp.

But that can be made up from the DWP to a amount that you can live on , just until you feel ok to return .Mine was when I got half pay, at mo I have no income as work stopped in april, I had three thousand in my bank, which is down to about 800 now, so have got to claim next week.

I have a little part time job and I have found it has been the saving of me. When I am there I have virtually no anxiety just totally immersed in my work. I would be lost without it. Hope you start back well and it works for you. All the very best. xx

Thank you, I lost the only job that meant a lot to me, and gave me the income I needed to run my house independently . I miss it so much, I had to work hard to get where I was, but hey health is more important , maybe when sorted I can get another job even if small, as I don't think it is doing me any good not working, as I think I have to much mind space now and time on my hands . Life used to be so busy for me, now just not at all.

I don't need anything for sleep, I think cause have had enough all day, I just crash around midnight. Can you drink on sertraline, I have not had any of that for 2years, and would love a drop.

i think its hard for someone that has a busy social life,to then stop having a few drinks when out.

Social life, whats that :(

I never had that before anxiety, was always at work or looking after my dad.

I used to have a drink when I got in from work.

no,dont see or hear from her,i had a couple of nights with no sleep at the start of this, then started to worry about not been able to sleep, thats the only thing i can think of,if so i cant get my head round, that a couple of nights with no sleep can cause this horrible anxiety

bonnie1959 profile image
bonnie1959 in reply toBramble63

I think it might if we worry to excess about it, I don't care if I don't go early, I normally go around twelve. Maybe work would be good for you, then you may even not need to take anything for sleep. I f you think I cant sleep, its getting later and later, and I am still not asleep, that will cause you some stress, they say we can function fine if we get as little as 6 hrs sleep.

Also instead of what doc has give you, have you tried Diazepam, you could use it here and there.

Also maybe the build up to going back to work has set it off.

I am not sure, but they may be similar. Can you use that one during the day, until you find out if meds are going to be effective.

Hi Bramble,

See your still having trouble sleeping with the dosage. I found it really difficult to get into a regular sleep pattern when I first started taking sertraline, I put it down to a change of shift pattern/life-style/job, I think it's just starting to settle now but although I think it has kicked in and starting to do me some good I do still feel that it is causing sleep problems.
