Hello I would appreciate some advice if possible as I am concerned that I have not been given the correct information from a locum doc.
I currently take 200mg (max dose) of sertraline for my depression & anxiety that I have suffered from since I was a child. I also use zopiclone as & when required as I have troubled sleep patterns.
I have just been told to use the zopiclone in the day to help with my anxiety (as I am going on holiday & required something to help settle me, but not make me sleep), so can u explain why this has been described please when, I asked if I could be prescribed zanex ( a type of diazepam)?
I would be greatful on a fast reply as I will need another appointment with my own doc if the information I have been given is incorrect!!

Sorry I dont have the reply to this , but I do no when I am not sure & need a answer quick , I phone my local chemist , the number should be on the tablets you have & they are very good at explaining & as they are trained , you can trust that the information will be correct
Ur advice was great, they have also agreed that taking 1 in the day is likely to make me sleep & should make an appointment with a different doctor to discuss my options so I have booked in to see 1 face 2 face for 2mora. ?? Xx
The docs has just prescribed me 7.5mg zopiclone for bad depression, anxiety and severe insomnia. I have found no useful sleep effects at all, it has however improved my anxiety greatly and has a very sinilar effect to benzodiazepines. I believe that both act on the same receptor in the brain just in different area from what I could make out on Wikipedia & in my experience the effect is very similar. I believe more doctors should prescribe I for daily use as an anti anxiety tablet rather than a sleepin aid
Hi I have been suffering from bipolar & also anxiety but I must say the anxiety is unbearable all the time... I am on 10mg of diazepam daily & supposed to take quatiapine but it disconnects me from life in general... I have started to take 3.75mg of zopeclone daily to combat my anxiety & by luck it takes away the horrible feeling of anxiety by miles, this was originally prescribed for sleep but me being me was looking for a way to stop that nasty anxiety feeling & zooid Clone has done the job !
I’m a former registered nurse (fibro induced early retirement 😢) and although I’m in no way an expert on sleeping meds I’ve never known zopiclone to be given in the day either!? I would think that no matter what time of day it is taken it would simply make you fall to sleep as that is the main action of the drug. I would certainly advise booking an appointment with your regular GP to question this and in the meantime I agree that your pharmacist is the best person to contact for advice. Pharmacists know much much more regarding drugs than any doctor as that is their job. I would trust what the pharmacist advises and go with his/her advice until you can see your regular GP.
Please let us know how you get on. X
Looks like this has been addressed and it's six years old, but occasionally you have the risk/benefits thing. One doctor wrote me a script for hydroxyzine for sleep. My psychiatrist wanted me to take it in lieu of benzos as it has shown some helpful anxiety benefits....so they recommended taking it three times a day if I began to feel anxiousness or panicked feelings. Kind of off considering it can be used to sleep and anxiety, but there are medications out there like this. I'm sure with dosing, they can find a dose that won't knock you out but will give you the benefits for anxiety. As for the Xanax, a doctor is going to avoid putting you on that if they can. As a former user, it's absolute hell to get off of and also has the ability to make you feel sleepy as well (it is considered a tranquilizer). It's great if you can use it sparingly or for a short period of time, but a terrible long term solution.
If you ever have questions, I would ask the prescribing doctor above all else. A pharmacist can break things down and make sure it's safe to take...the reasons and so on...but even their pamphlets may read that a doctor could prescribe a medication differently as to get a different desired result (anxiety relief instead of sleep). Elevate your concerns to your doctor so you know all the answers directly from the prescribing source.
You can use zoplicone in the daytime it doesnt make me go to sleep, I take 3.75mg calms my extreme anxiety down my Doctor says if it helps theres no harm .
