My doctors prescribed me citalopram to hel... - Anxiety Support
My doctors prescribed me citalopram to help my anxiety, does it help?
It depends on the person I had it for a little while but it doesn't work for meh unfortunately it made me feel worse just give it a try it can take several weeks before it may start to help. Everyone's body reacts in different ways. I'm on setraline instead for depression and anxiety. What dose are you on Hun? When did you start taking it xx
I've only got the prescription today the doc gave me 10mg, I haven't taken any yet as I'm really apprehensive the doctor said they may make me feel worse at first an I don't know if I can handle that! I've read they can make you drowsy as well, I'm already really tired all the time, I've already been off work this week an I'm afraid if I take them and I feel worse i might not be able to get back to work xx
hey there, all of these types of tablets can affect us in different ways. For me Citalopram gave me some unwanted side effects. Most when they are new to our system can make us feel strange for the first few days - a week but then improve. you will only feel 'worse' for a short while and maybe not even at all! xx
Hey Danielle!
My doctor subscribed me with 20mg of these, and my honest advice is do not take them. Citalopram made me so much worse, to the point where I was sick, crying for no reason and just a complete mess.
Try and work through it for the first few days, I know it's hard then in a few days if you feel you need to take one try one.
I stopped my tablets, and am now just doing yoga, and breathing excersizes and have found myself getting better each day.

Thanks for the advice, think I will try some other techniques first, I've just bought some relaxation CDs and a yoga DVD, hopefully I will find them more effective, it's good to be able to talk to people who understand what your going through xxx
hello, I took citalopram for anxiety a few years ago. On the negative side I felt weird for the first few weeks (like an out of body experience) but on the positive side I felt like I was doing something to get better. On the negative side I felt less able to hold a conversation. On the plus side I started to feel less out of control. I was on it for around 10 months and then I reduced it and finally stopped. When I stopped it I felt very angry for a few weeks (as well as a bit "out fo body"!) as I was anxious because I was being bullied at work and when I stopped supressing the feelings they all rushed back up. I've not been on it now for a few years and I have ups and downs like everyone, but when I couldn't control the situaton they were a help. I think my preference would be to try exercise and counselling if possible, but don't rule them out and if you do feel weird ride the wave knowing you will probably come out the other side. My doctor said that she recommended that particular type because she'd used them herself.
Hi all, when i first became depressed again my dr. prescribed Mirtazapine which didn't help at all next came Sertraline which affected me badly, so i went back again and asked why i couldn't have Citalophram which i had taken when i was last ill? She said no reason so i have been taking them for the last four months with no complications and i feel soo much better now. I think unless you have a really adverse affect from ads you should stick with them and give them time to work.
Stay well

The Dr is obviously doing the right thing where by see how it goes with the meds and if mo change they will increase it. I started on 10 and ended up on 200 plus another drug for depression and without it I would not cope.
