Hi JonW keeping your mind and your body moving, can help a lot in reducing
the adrenaline surge. I would do something strenuous. For myself, I would
vacuum. That would use up the adrenaline as well as take care of the
breathing, calming down the heart rate. I'd clean out a closet or a drawer
which would allow you to think more deeply and forget about the stress.
Doing something repetitive can become boring and allow you to go into
relax mode. Whatever works for you is the right thing. Good Luck xx
I clean and find things to organize and then go through things to donate keeps my hands and mind busy so my anxiety and depression doesn't get to much of a hold on me. If you have a dog get outside go for a long walk and if you don't have a dog a good long walk does wonders.
Hi JonW,
As a long time panic attack sufferer I can tell you this: Whatever works best for you is your answer. It’s anything that can focus your attention on something else until the adrenaline decreases. I always found running or walking the quickest to use up that adrenaline. The worst thing you can do is sit and fight it or think you can outthink it as that’ll just make it worse. When you find little glimmers of something that helps you, try to expand on whatever it is. Write down what works for you and keep the list handy as we don’t think logically in the midst of the attacks. Deep breathing for starters helps you think more rationally as to what you can do to distract yourself. I’ve held ice cubes in my hand which helped get me out of my head in the worst of moments. It really helps. Give it try. My best to you.
Awww mate, panic attacks are the worst. We are all different but I got rid of mine by facing them square on, no distractions, no meds. I cobbled together something similar to what is known as the dare technique. Acceptance, ditching the fear or discomfort and you’re halfway there. Obviously it’might not be for everyone and you will do what suits you but I am happy to be panic free and know what to do should it rear its ugly head in the future. Good luck.🤞
See if you can get at the root of what's causing them, and try to explore that topic a little more deeply.
Talking to someone was the best help I had
