COULD an absolute change in surroundings, relieve the symptoms of dementia?

I have been living in a two storey semi detached house for over twenty years, I have early dementia, but a change in surroundings, easy access to most of what I need daily, more 'fresh air', will be able to walk outside, rather than presently sit around in my house, I have claustrophobia, terminally ill, lack of transport, epilepsy, building up of 'brain fog', COULD that with the new complete change in surroundings, push back the black cloud of dementia, actually HELP to with hopefully a regular sleep routine, slow the onset of dementia?

I absolutely believe these things could help you, I honestly think it's important that we feel able to socialise, get out in the open and feel part of nature, our planet, every day life. Best wishes.

K.

brain food or brain supplements or vitamins and minerals

Exercise

Mental quizzes or mental exercises

All these help slow it

Sorry wish could show you documents but internet not working and mobile slightly

Yes this downsize change obviously means more exercise, always have been an historical nerd, reading the number of books unfortunately I've had to throw most of them out, but now I could reignite my interest and understanding of those things called letters and words🕵️‍♀️there is still a spark in there somewhere, maybe🤞👌 [p.s its downsizing, reducing, less of, do I have enough room🤫]

If the folks who publish the self-help articles know anything, doing something you're accustomed to doesn't help alertness. So reading a lot, as I've always done, doesn't help. "They" say learning a new skill is key. Sounds good, but who knows really.

If figuring out what's wrong with the #! @*&% computer counts as a new skill, my mind's improving with every windows update. 😬

I hope it helps you. I believe there are medications that can slow the progression. Perhaps your doctor know. And be sure to keep some familiar things around you. Unfortunately my Dad had early onset dementia in his 50's. He didn't have many choices then.

I understand that exercise is what is needed for both body and brain. You say you have claustrophobia, so you should feel good if you get out of the house. If that was a mistyping, and if you have agoraphobia, how will you be able to move house? Maybe it could help you. What is the first thing you can do to get yourself out of the house, even if the air you breathe is not the best? What could you do to improve your social life?

I'm able to walk a wider area, my house presently is on a high slope on the north of town, where due to lack of equilibrium/balance from the broken skull, [double seizure], I can walk but not uphill. I have claustrophobia from when I was buried under a collapsed sand dune when I was a kid, thus continually moving furniture, taking off house doors for 21 years, transport anywhere has always been poor and expensive, since Jan 2018 when I had the skull injury, maybe getting out of the house 2/3 times a week. I have two sisters to help with the moving, which I now have the legal procedure for moving out and moving in. The apartment is on the second storey, but has a big lift👌 The air I breathe will not be different, some three miles from one house to the apartment, the flat main town/city centre is within five minutes flat walking distance from the apartment, a more scenic area open to me, and easy train/bus transport are now also available to me👍

That sounds like a really good start to the new year. You have been through so much over the years, it is time life was made a little easier for you. I am glad for you, and I hope it all turns out to be a really good move.

Yes, I think exercise is good for anyone. Dementia is such a complicated condition, not much is known about what causes it, and I think it will be many years, if ever, that they figure it all out. Good luck to you, and don't stop trying !

Try playing an instrument, like piano. Learning a new skill forms new pathways in the brain, and this can help slow dementia down. And there are some new meds that have come out in the last couple of years. Find a hobby that you can focus on.

Are there any non-music ideas you can think of?

Well at last I can widen my range, moving away from that claustrophobic existence, I'm afraid playing an instrument is now beyond me, I have bad essential tremors in my left hand, courtesy of benign tumour left elbow and after effect reactions from AZ vaccine on left arm, the broken clavicle on right shoulder does not help matters, I remember my music teacher at school after three months tuition "I'm afraid you have absolutely no musical talent!" 🙄 But at last I have now got the freedom to find something new👌🤗
