What has worked for me is reminding myself that not a single one of the events I feared has ever come to pass.
Try being in the moment and really focus on the other people. Really listen if they're talking, focus on body language, etc... Not sure if this is helpful, but just a thought.
Focus on your breathing that usually helps take your mind off of intrusive thoughts. You can easily do this while talking to someone. In the nose and out the mouth. Good luck!
Just today my therapist told me when I have triggering thoughts, to acknowledge them. I find when I try to be in the present moment and focus on my breath it’s easier to deal with.
