I have been anxious lately

Hello all,

I have been struggling with anxiety on and off for years. Recently, I have been feeling very anxious all the time. I think some of my thoughts have triggered these anxious feelings. One of the things that I think triggers it is my over thinking (specifically about how we are almost into another year already). This really affects my stomach. I completely loose my appetite and sometimes I cry uncontrollably. I have been in counseling on and off, but am starting it up again. Has anyone ever dealt with anxiety like this?

Sorry you're feeling anxious. I know from my experience that the holidays are a big trigger. It's good that you're staying in therapy because it can help you to learn skills to lessen your anxiety. And take steps on your own like reading books that help you understand what you're going thru. And keeping a journal. When I can't get out of my head I journal. I write down my thoughts honestly, without judging myself. It always helps. I'm glad you can vent here. 🥰

Yes, that sounds exactly like our ol' friend, Anxiety. And it's REALLY fun when she shows up with Depression to the party! ;)

Your symptoms are familiar to me. I've had all sorts of physical sensations from anxiety. Our guts are directly connected to our mental health and emotions, so it makes sense that your GI system is affected. With that being said, your diet can affect your anxiety BIG time. If you're eating a lot of processed foods, sugars, caffeine, etc., anxiety gets amped up 10-fold.

Anxiety is fear based, and by worrying about the past or worrying about the future, you are neglecting the present, which is LIFE. I have OCD and used to ruminate and obsess about everything. Generalized anxiety disorder and OCD are very close friends, and they both have to do with fear...and "what if's". We just need to LET. IT. ALL. GO.

"Let it go" was my mantra for years and I wanted to get it as a tattoo, but then Frozen came out and kind of ruined the idea for me ;) lol

Movement helps. Take walks. Stretch. Do yoga. Movement also helps with digestion.

Hope this helps! And good for you for reaching out...that can sometimes be the hardest part.

Hi Pastalover14...being in your head isn't bad if they are positive thoughts.

Unfortunately, once our mind gets stuck on negativity, it can be difficult to change

the channel of our mind. I was once like the many others on this forum who were

filled with fear and anxiety that brought me to tears every day.

Crying can and does release the emotional pain for the moment. However, we need

to find a method that works in preventing these episodes to grow and disrupt our lives.

My "go to" started with Therapy, Medication and YouTube. It felt good to expel all the fears

and anxious thoughts surrounding me each day However, that's only the start in cleaning

house. We cannot sweep our problems *fears under the carpet. They must be addressed

in a positive way which can come from "Action forward".

YouTube has many credible professionals making tutorial videos that can help pull us

through. Lots of ideas in how to subdue the anxious symptoms of stress. Not everything

works for everyone but when you do find something that fits you, start practicing it.

For me it has been Meditation & Breathing. By using these tools each and every day, I

now have control over my life. Upon awakening, I listen to Meditation to start my day

on a positive note.....Mid day, I may take a 5 minute break to just breathe and allow my

mind to regenerate by bringing my shoulders down away from my ears and just going

limp. Last but not least is using Meditation and Breathing in bed at night. This is when

you can turn off your mind and body to the stresses of the day by listening to the

comforting words of Meditation which may include, imagery, relaxation, mindfulness

and even self hypnosis. I am so in tune with this procedure now that I fall asleep within

moments of my head hitting the pillow. What's nice about this is that the subconscious

mind continues to absorb all the positive and powerful words said while I go into a REM

sleep. This becomes like a bank account, storing up the good thoughts that I can draw

from if and when stress becomes overwhelming and start showing physical symptoms.

Start your breathing when this happens. It can lower the Adrenaline levels as well as

calm both the body and mind. With practice you can find a solution to the issue in time :) xx

Maybe counseling can help you. A psychiatrist can make a better diagnosis and prescribe something that will work for you.
