Starting Duloxetine

Hi everyone!

Just having a bit of a rant really, wanting to pick your brains about some things.

Been having a few health issues recently and i'm undergoing investigation for POTs. A couple of months ago a GP implied that it was all in my head and the 25mg of Sertraline I was taking wasnt doing any good (I've been trying to get off the last of it for a while bit cannot stand the brain zaps and diziness of withdrawal.) So instead she insisted I tried something else. I've been looking into Duloxetine as they're supposed to be better for IBS-D which is something else I deal with.

This last couple of days I've been trying my best and have done a good couple of days, maybe 3, without any sertraline, I've been dizzy as hell but coping with cyclizine (I'm an emetophobe, these pills can be a lifeline I wish they'd put them on repeat for me but I do only take them when absolutely necessary.)

Anywho, I just plucked up the courage and took the first 30mg Duloxetine capsule. I'm scared to death it's gona make me feel worse (Super dizzy this morning and a bit of a dicky tummy too) Basically I'm looking for a bit of reassurance from y'all and want you to tell me about your initial days on Duloxetine.

I'm trying to mantra 'This might be the best thing you've ever done' instead of catastrophising, but I'm still shaking like a leaf! I'm also reminding myself that both times I've taken new AD's (Fluoxetine and Sertraline) I didn't feel anything with the first pill.

I've also noticed these couple of days without any AD's I'm actually feeling some things instead of the numbness that comes with the pills. Another reason I'm a bit reluctant.

Ah I dno, I just want to feel well again!

Thanks for listening, any advice or kind words very much appreciated :)

Hi, I’ve been taking duloxetine for about two/three years and had no problems, it’s helped me a lot, I’m only on one a day now, I tried two others before but they didn’t suit me, so do give it a try, good luck 👍

I am a big baby when it comes to taking medication because I tend to overthink what can side effects could happen and tend to focus on the negative. I’ve never been on duloxetine but I started sertraline 25mg two months ago and I feel like the first few days were pretty intense but it does get better. I think I might need an increase since I have more bad days than good but you got this, try to think positive and don’t google any of the side effects. First few days might not feel great but give your body some time to adjust.
