injured bird

I hope this is OK to post here. For once I am not posting about my misery. I know there are bird lovers on this site. I have a bird hanging out under my shrubs by my front door. It can walk, but since it's in the same general area, I'm assuming it has an injured wing and cannot fly. I have tried calling various rescue groups in my city, but I have not heard back. How can I help it? Since it can walk, I assume it can find food and water, although I am not totally sure. If I try to rescue it myself, I'm not sure I'd be doing it any good (how do I feed it? Do I leave it in an uncovered shoe box outside? Do I get a bird cage and keep it for a pet if it cannot fly?) Please help....I would hate for it to suffer if it is in fact injured. Everyone here is so empathetic and caring because we know how it feels to suffer...so I figured y'all are the best folks to ask!

thank you!!

my mother has been caring for a paralyzed goose nearly 7 years now. yes, paralyzed. She washes it everyday in the sink and keeps its bedding fresh and has dangled toys for her to play with.

she’s rescued an injured flying squirrel as well.

Hello, is it an adult bird or a fledgling? If it's the latter then perhaps there's a nest nearby containing mum and its siblings. I'd put a shallow dish of water beside it. When I found an injured pigeon, I phoned RSPCA and was advised to cover it with a cardboard box to prevent other birds' attacking it.Then the RSPCA would collect it.

Sorry to hear that your RSPCA equivalent is not helping. It might adopt you as its mummy if your help manages to heal it.

Best of luck🤞

Xx

it’s probably a young fledgling and the parents will be close by feeding it for a day or two

It's the time of year for young birds to leave the nest and try to fend for themselves. The parents should be nearby and feeding it, if not then your only option would be to take it to a veterinarian.

Some birds won't feed it if a human has touched it.

Cheers, Midori
