bad month

I’ve been trying to work on my mental health for a while now and spent the last 4 years trying to find a medication that is right for me. I spent the last month with awful withdraws from one and negative responses to a new med at the same time. It’s been a month now and I started on Prozac. I feel so defeated and like nothing will get better. I had to spend thanksgiving alone because I couldn’t relax and stop having panic attacks. My family life was rough but is getting better now and I’m so worried about going home for the holidays. I don’t get good sleep and haven’t been able to eat much. It’s reached the point where I’m panicked about my breathing. I have a really good therapist and I’m hoping Prozac will work but need any advice or help to make it through this hump.

Changing our negative thoughts to a more positive approach can help when

starting new meds or making changes of any kind. It does take time in finding

the right medication as well as dosage for each one of us. More like a trial and error

process. But once we have found what may work for us (4-6 wks), it's about believing

that this is the "key" to our success.

Right now you've got a lot on your mind with the holidays coming up in regards

to your sleep, eating and even breathing. Focusing on these negativities can have

a negative impact on you starting Prozac or any other kind of medicine.

While on this medication and hopefully with therapy, you can find some other methods

or tools to get you on the right path.

My go to is YouTube..."Therapy in a Nutshell" has many topics by a Psychiatrist that

can give you some ideas in how to go forward. My best to you. It's all going to

work out in time. :) xx

Hello and Welcome. Joining us here could definitely help in getting you over the hump. It is excellent that you have a really good therapist. I do hope that the Prozac works for you.

If you have tried and failed with several meds, have you considered alternative treatment such as TMS(Transcranial magnetic stimulation)? It's a noninvasive treatment and was successful for me after becoming treatment resistant to meds after being on them for decades. They usually want you to have at least had a few trials of meds before being considered. It literally saved my life at one point. Hoping the Prozac helps you. I was on it for 10 years starting right after it came out late 80's. At the time it was my miracle drug. Glad to hear your family life is getting better. That should help.
