Has anyone been on this medication, what has been your experience on this medication?
I have just taken my first dose and I have been so nauseous and dizzy, with hot flushes going on, just waiting for these to subside and I have left a message with my GP to inform them of this in case I need to stop the medication.

I have been on this medication Many, too many years. But, when I first started on the med. (150 mg.), I felt the same symptoms that you stated. Because my OCD, then, was SO bad, I decided to stick with the med. In a few weeks, the symptoms did subside. Years, later, I am still on Effexor, now on 75 mg. I have been on the med. Way too long, and mainly on it now so I don't go into withdrawal. I would say, it did help me with my OCD plus doing Exposure Therapy. I know that now many articles I read say that these anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds. don't really help, but I suppose it depends on the person. I would suggest, too, that you check with your doctor on how you are feeling. Usually, the side effects are very mild, or not so noticeable with time & reduced dose. However, these meds. can cause all kinds of unwanted side-effects if used for a long time! Frankly, I wish that I didn't stay on them SO long, but that's another story.
I had high blood pressure, too, before I went on Ven. I think a very high dose could raise blood p., but ask your doctor about that. I have been, and take blood p. meds. Everyone is different, and if the med. helps you, then you should take it as long as you need to. I have a lot of health issues, and I do feel that All the Stress in my life over the years has played a Big part in both my physical & mental health issues. Can't separate the body from the mind & our health system seems to which is not good medicine. Wishing the Best for both of us.
thank you, very helpful! 🙂 I have been on many different medications and I seem to be quite sensitive to side effects, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for this one. My husband has OCD he has been doing really well with Talking therapy, he gets homework every week from them to tackle a new task, I am very chuffed as he is doing very well, I hope you are too!
It took me Years to know that the Horrible intrusive thoughts, and the Awful health anxiety was OCD. Finally, I found an OCD Therapist & had "Tons" of homework (Exposure Therapy), and had many Setbacks. Also, the Ven. (Effexor) helped me to do the Exposure. Am better, but do attend an OCD Group via computer once a week! I am glad that your husband is doing really well with Talk Therapy, and his homework. Keep practicing!
just wanted to update, i have been on this for just under a month, i think its starting to help, its taking the edge off a bit.... i'm having a bad day today though but its the first for over a week!
