Hi, I take certraline, and have had a great opinion from the day I started and I'm still alive (I think)lol they work well for me, I'm on maximum dose BUT READ THE INSTRUCTIONS PROPPERLY, you should do and see what it says. Or go see your GP. Look hard at the side effects are.

I just switched to sertraline from escitalopram, which was making my anxiety worse (although for many folks it works GREAT). I started at 25 mg and had some nausea, diarrhea and dizziness for a week or two, but then it settled and I felt... better. The anxiety improved greatly and the depression began to lift. After about three weeks (I was hoping the low dose would be enough), I went up to 50 mg and again had a bit of side effects, but they subsided within a week and now I feel MUCH better. I won't know the full effect for another few weeks to a month, but I honestly now feel the best I have in a long time. I am also on mirtazapine at night, but my daytime meds haven't been right in quite a while, and nothing else has seemed to have as much of a positive impact as the sertraline has. Keep in mind that everyone reacts differently. You may have no side effects, worse ones or simply different ones. For most people they go away in a few weeks, but for some they don't. The key is to listen to your body while still giving it a real try. And if you feel anything off, read up on the side effects and reach out to your doctor. Good luck!

Read your message with interest. I have switched from venlafaxine to sertraline . I was on 225 mg venlafaxine and gradually reduced over 3 months before a switch to 25 mg sertraline. Same dose as you were on initially. I have been on 12days and the past few days have been really anxious and my mood has plummeted . So increased today to 50 mg, hoping this will help. I have been in a bad place for past few days. Took a diazapam an hour ago and my anxiety has subsided.

My thoughts were totally irrational. Hoping when 50 mg kicks in this will help. I couldn’t survive if this didn’t improve. I know it’s early days. Having follow up with dr on Wednesday .

Unfortunately, I found the same thing, so now I am weaning back down on the sertraline. :-( It's a knife edge, and when you are highly reactive (which I am), it doesn't take much to upset the balance. Sadly, the same meds that can make us feel better can also make us feel worse. I really hope that the new dose works out for you, but if it doesn't, don't be afraid to try again. I gave up on worrying what my doctor thought about me deciding to change meds, because what ultimately matters is how I feel. Good luck!

I’ve been on several different antidepressants over the years. However been on Sertraline for approximately 6 months. Started on 50 mg and now on 200 mg. After dreadful side effects after 2 -3 months now settled quite happily. Felt like giving up so many times but with help from diazepam I got there! Now back to ‘normal’ for me.

It has helped me so much. I did have minor side effects. Like headache and upset stomach. I also felt a little foggy. That only lasted for about one week until I was feeling so much better. Zoloft is a great medication to take. It is very benign compared to a lot of the others. It is a very gradual acting medication.

Hi, unfortunately sertraline didn’t help me, I had headache and spaceyness for weeks, so then came off it. But don’t be put off, I know other people on it and it works very well for them.
